The Grant Joint Union High School District is located in the northern parts of the city of Sacramento and the county of Sacramento in California, U.S.A. Our district serves the 7th through 12th grade students in the area. Our students come to us from five elementary school districts, which are Del Paso Heights, Elverta, North Sacramento, Robla and Rio Linda. The Grant Joint Union High School District is comprised of five high schools, five junior high schools, two adult education centers, one special education center, and one charter magnet school. The Grant Joint Union High School District has an annual "Average Daily Attendance" (ADA) of approximately 11,000 students. We are currently growing at an annual rate of about 1.5%.
The District was formed on July 28, 1931. The voters of the Del Paso, Robla, Rio Linda Union, Hagginwood (now part of the North Sacramento School District), North Sacramento and Lincoln (now Elverta) created the district. Grant was chosen over American and Del Paso as the name for the new district in honor of the old Spanish land grant owned by Charles Haggin. Mr. Haggin raised thoroughbreds on the Rancho Del Paso and claimed such notable racers as Dixieanne and Empress in his stable. The legacy of Mr. Haggin and his Rancho live on in more than just the high school district. Arcade, Haggin, Dixieanne and Empress are just a few of the streets that draw their names from the Rancho and provide today's residents with a reminder of the areas past.
