The scene opens in a bathroom. We hear laughter coming, but we can’t see who from. The camera moves slowly to a bathroom stall where two kids are standing in the stall, holding another kids head into the toilet.

“Should we let him up for air?” kid 1 says, bringing up the victim’s head for air.

“Naaah.” The other kid says, as Kid 1 slams the victims head into the water.

The door to the bathroom opens, and they hear people walk in. The two kids let go of their victim and exit the stall.  The victim pulls his head out of the toilet as the other two kids walk away. He sits on the floor and cries.

“I’ll get you back. I’ll fucking kill you all.”

Episode 4

School Days

The scene changes to a bedroom, where the camera focuses on two people lying together in the bed. They both roll over, and we see Malcom and Harper. Malcom wraps his arm around Harper, and she wakes up. She slowly slides out of his grasp and out of the bed. She moves into the bathroom, with the camera following her.

MALCOM (off screen)
Harper?

HARPER

Don’t worry. I’m still here.

MALCOM (off screen)

So how does this work?

HARPER
Well… we could do that every night. I’m not complaining.

MALCOM (off screen)
I mean, what are we?

HARPER
What do you mean?

MALCOM (off screen)
Are we public?

HARPER
Well, I’d rather not broadcast it. But I’m not gonna hide it from my friends.

Malcom moves into the bathroom.

MALCOM
Doesn’t Van discourage this?

HARPER
It’s happened before…

Harper’s voice trails off. She stops and changes the subject. She turns around to Malcom, in a very playful manner.

HARPER
So. Was it good for you too?

Harper and Malcom laugh and kiss.

The scene changes to the workout room, later in the day.  Carter is lifting weights already. Chad and Malcom walk into the room.

CHAD
So why’d you turn down two for one at O’Malley’s last night?

CARTER
Yeah man, where were you?

MALCOM
Out.

CARTER
You got yourself a girl?

CHAD
Our little bro’s got a girl.

Carter and Chad laugh. Harper walks through the room, and her and Malcom exchange a glance. She exits into another room.

MALCOM
Yeah, I’ve got a girl.

CHAD
Wait…

MALCOM
What?

CHAD
No…

MALCOM
WHAT?

CHAD
You and Harper?

Malcom is silent.

CARTER
Please man, tell me it ain’t true.

MALCOM
It just happened.

CHAD
Oh my god… I don’t know what to say.

MALCOM
What?

CARTER
Chad, he doesn’t know. Remember that.

CHAD
Bullshit, man, he should know.

CARTER
Don’t.

Chad leans into Malcom.

CHAD
Everyone who has dated Harper hasn’t lasted on this team. The first guy she dated, they had a huge breakup and he requested a transfer. The second guy…

CARTER
Chad. Stop.

CHAD
Well, remember when you asked what happens that tenth time?

Carter stops lifting weights and crosses to Chad and Malcom.

CARTER
Vince made an error. That’s all. He misjudged.

MALCOM
You saying that I’m dating some sort of bomb squad curse?

CARTER
No. We’re not saying that. Are we?

Carter shoots Chad a dirty look.

CHAD
Screw that, Carter. That’s exactly what I’m saying.

Carter takes Malcom away from Chad.

CARTER
Listen man, what’s good for you is good for the team. Alright? Remember that.

MALCOM
So, I’m the replacement for her dead boyfriend?

CARTER
Don’t let Chad get to you. He’s an ass. Everyone knows that he has a big mouth. If you and Harper are happy, then I’m happy. Forget Chad.

Van walks into the room.

VAN
You guys ready?

CARTER
For what?

VAN
It’s time to work.

The scene cuts ahead to the van pulling up in front of a high school.  A police line has already been created to keep the amassing crowd back. The team steps out of the van.

“Hey, Sparks. Over here.” A uniformed officer calls out.

Van walks in front of the rest of the team and over to the cop. Carter stands there, looking at the school.

CARTER
This is my son’s school.

Carter walks toward the school.

VAN
Carter!

CARTER
MY SON IS IN THERE!

VAN
Carter. Stay back.

Chad puts his hand on Carter’s shoulder and stops him.

CHAD
It’s OK.  We’ll get him out.

Renee sits in the van, and opens her laptop.

“Alright, Van, we’re gonna send your team in through the front, and SWAT is going in through a rear entrance to the school.” The officer in charge says.

HARPER
Oh sure. SWAT gets to go in the back.

“Excuse me?” the officer asks, totally offended.

HARPER
Nothing.

Harper and Malcom get their gear. Chad and Carter move to get theirs.

CHAD
Are you sure you’re OK to go inside?

CARTER
I’m more than OK. We’re gonna take that punk kid down.

The scene cuts ahead to Harper standing in front of the doors to the school, using a scanning device to make sure the doors aren’t wired. They aren’t. She opens the doors and goes inside. A teenage girl runs past her and out the door.

HARPER
You said our suspect was male Caucasian, right?

VAN (in headset)

Yes.

Chad leads the sweep through the hallway. Harper and Malcom are in the middle, with Carter bringing up the rear. They reach a chance to go left or right.

Chad motions for them to split up into two groups. Chad and Harper go left, Carter and Malcom go right. The camera follows Chad and Harper.

CHAD
So… you and Malcom?

HARPER
And?

CHAD
Just wondering.

HARPER
You jealous I’m not going out with you?

CHAD
Been there, done that.

HARPER
Can we focus?

CHAD
Just wondering why you chose Malcom. He’s kinda scrawny.

Chad opens the door to a classroom and sees the dead body of a teacher.

CHAD (into headphones)
We’ve got at least one body.

Chad looks in the room, and sees a scared teenager, sitting in the corner crying.

CHAD
Hey kid. Come on.

The teen gets up and runs to them. Chad motions the kid down the hall and out the front door.

HARPER (in headset)

Another’s coming out.

Suddenly, and explosion is heard behind them, where Carter and Malcom went.

HARPER
Malcom!

Harper and Chad run back down the hallway to the end, where they see the cafeteria. A large fire is now in the room, and members of the SWAT team are lying dead on the floor. A black teenager runs to the door and starts banging on it.

“PLEASE! GET ME OUT OF HERE!” the boy screams.

HARPER
I can’t open the doors!

Carter and Malcom reenter the scene, from another room. Two other kids run out of the room they were just in.

MALCOM
What happened?

Carter sees the boy trying to open the doors.

CARTER
That’s my son! KEVIN!

Carter runs to the door and starts pushing and pulling, trying to get it open.

MALCOM
What happened?

HARPER
I DON’T KNOW!

Malcom takes a step back.

HARPER
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to get angry with you.

In the cafeteria, they see a white teen with a gun in hand emerge from the smoke. Carter immediately draws his gun.

CARTER
Kevin! Hit the ground!

Kevin drops down and Carter fires through the window in the door, hitting the kid with the gun, also shattering the glass.

CHAD
Here. Use this.

Chad hands Carter a smaller gun. Carter sticks the gun through the door and hands it to Kevin.

CARTER
Son. I want you to shoot the lock off the door.

The camera pans into the cafeteria, which is almost completely filled with smoke, to show the doors chained and bolted shut. A white teenage girl emerges from the smoke and runs to Kevin. Kevin fires on the lock and breaks it open. He removes the lock and the chains, as Carter opens the door. Carter and Kevin embrace, and the girl runs past them and out.

CARTER
I want you to go. Outside.

Kevin hands the gun back to Chad.

CARTER
Now.

Malcom immediately moves over to the body of the kid that Carter shot. Upon a closer look, we notice that this isn’t the same kid who got the swirly in the opening scene.

MALCOM
He’s dead.

Carter looks shocked.

CARTER
I didn’t mean to kill him.

“Well, yeah, you kinda did.” A voice says, from behind the team. Malcom looks behind them and sees a kid with a baseball bat and also a gun in his pocket. This is the kid from before.

MALCOM
HARPER! Look out!

The kid swings the bat and hits Harper in the head. Chad turns and the kid swings, hitting Chad in the stomach. Chad buckles over. The kid backswings and hits Harper again, knocking her out. Carter attacks the kid and grabs the bat. The kid pulls the gun, and enters a struggle with Carter for control of the gun. Carter pushes the kid to the floor.

Malcom moves over to Harper to make sure she’s OK. Chad recovers and takes the baseball bat.

“You’ll never get to the bomb in time.” The kid says.

CHAD
There’s another bomb?

“They deserve to die.” The kid says.

MALCOM
You’re a sick bastard.

Carter slams his head into the kids, and slams the kids hand into the ground, accidentally causing the gun to go off.  Carter punches the kid in the head twice, knocking the kid out.

CARTER
Malcom! Cuffs!

Carter rolls the kid over.

CARTER
Malcom!

Carter looks behind him to see Chad kneeling over Malcom, who was shot by the bullet.

CARTER
Shit.

Carter leaves the unconscious boy, and moves to Malcom.

CARTER
You OK?

CHAD
He’s losing a lot of blood.

Carter rips off his shirt, to reveal only his Kevlar vest. He notices the blood coming out from Malcom’s neck, on the side. He ties the shirt around Malcom’s neck, to help stop the bleeding.

CHAD
We’ve got to find that bomb.

CARTER (into headset)

Van, listen, Harper’s down, and Malcom’s been shot. We need Renee to diffuse the bomb.

VAN (in headset)

Malcom’s been shot?

CARTER (into headset)

There’s a bomb, and we don’t know where it is. Send in medics and Renee.

Carter and Chad back away from Malcom.

CHAD
Sorry buddy, we gotta do this.

Chad and Malcom turn around to see Renee, laptop in hand, ready to go.

RENEE
Where do you want me?

The scene cuts ahead to the 3 running through a portion of the school.

CARTER
He said they deserve to die.

CHAD
So he probably has some people with the bomb.

RENEE
Where?

The group runs past a boys bathroom where they hear some muffled screams coming from inside. Carter, Chad, and Renee run into the bathroom, which is horribly flooding, where they see the 2 bullies from the opening scene, each with their hand, handcuffed to the toilet, and their feet handcuffed to the bottom leg of the stall wall. The toilet they are attached to is flooding.

Chad steps into the stall and removes the gag from the boys.

“He flushed the bomb. It’s in the toilet!” a boy cries.

Chad takes out his gun and shoots the handcuffs on both of the boys hands and feet. They are now free.

CHAD
Go!

Renee takes one of their spots and reaches her small hand into the toilet.

RENEE
I can feel it.

CHAD
Is it soft and mushy?

CARTER
CHAD!

CHAD
Sorry.

Carter pushes Chad out of the way.

CARTER
Move.

CHAD
Why?

Carter immediately starts sloshing all the water out of the bowl and it flies all over Chad. Chad scrambles out of the way. Once Carter gets most of the water out of the bowl, he presses his hands over the hole and presses down and up, using a suction like function (like a plunger). After a couple of times of doing this, he lets Renee back in.

RENEE
Got it!

Renee pulls the bomb out of the toilet. The timer has run down to 11 seconds. The bomb looks much like it was built into a golfball of some sort.

RENEE
What the hell is this?

CHAD
A bomb?

Renee takes the bomb and throws it against the wall, the outside casing shatters, and she scrambles over to the timer.  3 seconds left. She takes the bomb to her teeth and bites into the blue wire, severing it. The timer stops. She looks at it.

One second.

RENEE
One second. I think that’s a new record.

Renee looks at the miniature bomb.

RENEE
I doubt this bomb could have done much more than blown off a finger. It’s barely a cherry bomb. Somehow, they got a drop of C4, and they think that constitutes a bomb. Well, it doesn’t.

CHAD
So you’re saying…

RENEE
In my opinion, this isn’t a bomb. It’s a firework.

CARTER
Malcom.

Carter gets up and runs out of the room, followed by Chad and Renee.

The run out of the school. Van greets them.

VAN
The bomb?

They see an ambulance pulling away, without its sirens on.

CARTER
Malcom?

The scene changes to the hospital. The camera pulls in on Harper, lying in her bed, just waking up. She rolls over and looks at Malcom, lying in the bed next to her, unconscious with tubes running through his body

HARPER
Malcom?

The screen fades to black.
