The scene opens inside a bank. Everyone is in a panic. Three gunmen are positioning themselves around the room, making people get down on the floor. This is the same robbery from the previous episode.

The camera closes in on Van, who is lying on the floor. The camera pulls in on his hand which moves for his cell phone in his pocket. Unnoticed, Van dials a number.

The camera cuts to Carter and Renee just getting in their car at the airport. Carter’s phone rings.

CARTER
Hello?

In the background on his phone, he can hear a man screaming “everybody down now.” Carter looks at his phone which shows ‘Van- Cell’.

CARTER
If you can hear me. I’m on my way.

Carter keeps his phone on and turns to Renee.

RENEE
What is it?

CARTER
It’s Van. He’s in trouble.

Carter looks out his car window to see Chad walking with Jean to their car. Carter opens his door and shouts to Chad.

CARTER
Chad. Wait. It’s Van. He’s in trouble.

CHAD
Van?

Chad turns to his mother.

CHAD
Do you remember where my place is?

JEAN
Yes. I was just here last Thanksgiving, remember?

CHAD
Yeah. Of course.

Chad reaches into his pocket and hands her his keys.

CHAD
I’m parked right over there (pointing to a car). I have to do this.

JEAN
I understand.

Chad kisses his mom on the cheek and runs and gets in the backseat of Carter’s car.

CARTER
Call Harper.

Episode 6

Bonnie and Clyde

The scene changes to Malcom’s hospital room. Malcom is now awake, and sitting up in bed, eating. Harper is sitting next to him, watching TV.

HARPER
Look at you eat.

MALCOM
I’m hungry.

Malcom laughs and shovels more food in his mouth.

HARPER
But that stuff looks disgusting.

MALCOM
If it was the only thing you’d eaten in days, you’d think it was… I don’t know. I was trying for some snappy analogy, but I’m just too tired.

HARPER
Still?

MALCOM
Well. Mentally I guess. I dunno. All this sitting around is driving me crazy.

HARPER
The doctor said if you were feeling fine tomorrow, he’d consider discharging you.

Harper’s cell phone rings. Harper answers it.

HARPER
Hello?

CHAD (on phone)

Harper. Van’s involved in a robbery in progress. Carter, Renee and I are headed there already.

HARPER
Where?

CHAD (on phone)

First and Oak.

HARPER
I’ll be there.

Harper hangs up the phone and moves to leave.

MALCOM
What is it?

HARPER
Van. He’s in trouble.

Malcom moves to get out of his bed.

HARPER
You can’t. No. Stay.

MALCOM
Harper, I’m coming with you.

Malcom takes off his medical wires, and removes his IV.

MALCOM
I’m fine. Get me my jacket.

HARPER
No. Malcom. If you want to help, stay here.

Harper leaves Malcom. Malcom moves over to his closet and gets his clothes out. He starts to change. A nurse rushes into the room and stops Malcom, followed by a series of other hospital staffers.

The scene changes to outside the bank. Carter, Renee, and Chad get out of their car, at the same time, several other cars pull up. Carter pops open his trunk and gets some guns out, handing one to Carter, putting one behind his shirt and keeping the other.

RENEE
What do I do?

CARTER
Stay outside.

A police officer walks over to Carter.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

CARTER
Look, the best and brightest of our SWAT was just killed a couple days ago. We are the only two on scene that have SWAT training.

CHAD
We need vests.

Carter reaches into his trunk, pulls out two vests, and hands one to Chad.

CHAD
Who are you?

CARTER
I’m prepared.

Carter loads his gun.

“I can’t let just the two of you go in there.”

Carter and Chad put their headphones on. Renee already has her laptop out.

RENEE
I pulled up the blueprints of the building.

CARTER
Air vent?

Renee points to a square on the roof.

CHAD
How do we get to the roof?

RENEE
There’s a fire escape on the back.

Another car pulls up and Harper gets out of the car.

HARPER
Gun?

Carter pulls the gun from behind his shirt and gives it to Harper. He grabs another vest out of the trunk and hands it to Harper.

CARTER
You ready for this?

Harper checks her gun, to make sure its loaded. Carter leads the way, and to the surprise of the police, the three run behind the building to get to the fire escape. The camera follows them as they run up the stairs to the roof. Carter sees the air vent and opens it.

The scene cuts ahead to Carter, Chad, and Harper crawling through the vent. They reach an opening, that drops into the lobby. Below them, the robbers scream at the people on the floor, while one of them is loading cash in the bag.

“Please don’t kill us!” one woman cries.

CARTER
(whispering) I can’t see Van.

Carter sees another opening and crawls down to it. He looks back at Chad and Harper.

CARTER

(whispering) Same time.

He raises his hand and signals 3, 2, 1…

Carter busts through his opening, and Chad through his. The robbers are taken by surprise. Chad shoots one of them, knocking him to the ground. Carter shoots another, taking that one to the ground. Harper drops from the ceiling.

The other robber, who was filling up the bag, grabs the bag and runs for the door. Carter runs and jumps on him, tackling him to the floor. Harper spots Van, rising from the floor and moves to his side.

HARPER
Are you OK?

From Van’s point of view, he sees one of the shot robbers raising the gun toward Harper. Without thinking, Van whips Harper out of the way. Before the robber fires, Chad shoots him, killing him. Chad jumps on the other shot robber, and immediately restrains him.

HARPER
Thanks.

VAN
No. Thank you.

HARPER
We weren’t going to leave our captain in the cold.

VAN
I’m not your captain anymore.

CARTER
You’re always be our captain.

Carter picks his guy up off the floor, as does Chad to his.  Hostages start running out of the building. Carter and Chad take the robbers out of the building, followed by Harper and Van.

Outside, the team is greeted by Renee, who runs and hugs Van.

VAN
Whoa.

RENEE
You can’t leave.

VAN
It’s not up to me.

Carter, leaving his robber with another officer, moves over to Van.

CARTER

Yes it is.

HARPER
Don’t leave.

Van looks at the team.

VAN
I have no choice. What happened, to the SWAT team…

CARTER
That wasn’t your fault.

VAN
I’m sorry. I just can’t. Not right now. There’s too much pressure.

HARPER
Then take a leave of absence. Please, just don’t go.

Van looks at his team.

VAN
I’ll tell the captain I need a few weeks off. To do some thinking.

CARTER

That’s better than nothing.

RENEE
Thank you.

VAN
But I need a place to stay.

The team looks at each other.

VAN
I’ve already given up my apartment.

RENEE
I can’t do it, I still live with my parents.

Carter, Chad, and Harper look at Renee.

CHAD
You serious?

RENEE
Yeah.

HARPER
Well, I’m taking in Malcom when he gets out of the hospital… so there goes my spare living space.

CARTER
I can’t do it because I’ve already got a wife and two kids. And we only live in a two bedroom apartment.

Carter, Harper, and Renee look at Chad.

CHAD
Man, come on. I’ve got my mom in town…

CARTER
Chad.

CHAD
Alright… Van… you can stay at my place.

VAN
I won’t be in your way?

CHAD
No. You won’t.

The scene changes back to the hospital, with Harper entering Malcom’s room. Harper notices that Malcom is out of his bed, and already dressed.

MALCOM
Did everything turn out OK?

HARPER
I heard you tried to leave?

MALCOM
Yeah. I did. They told me I wasn’t ready, and an hour later I finally convinced the doctor to discharge me.

HARPER
You’re stubborn, you know that?

MALCOM
When you fell from that tree, YOU were the one who refused to go to the hospital.

HARPER
I know.

MALCOM
We’re too much alike.

HARPER
Is that a bad thing?

MALCOM
No, I was just saying…

HARPER
Just shutup while you’re still ahead. Come on, I’m taking you to my place.

MALCOM
I’m fine.

HARPER
I’d just feel better, knowing that I was there to take care of you.

Harper turns to leave.

MALCOM
Tell me about Vince.

HARPER
There’s nothing to tell…

MALCOM
Come on. Do you really believe all this curse stuff?

HARPER
No.

MALCOM
Then what happened?

HARPER
That’s why Renee is so picky now about the ten seconds. Vince used to be our surgeon, he used to do what I do… cut the wires, diffuse the bombs. He was lead on a bomb found in a warehouse not too long ago… hostage situation. Carter and Chad cleared the room, took out the mark and saved the hostages.

MALCOM
Where were you?

HARPER
I was backup for Vince. (pause) He did what Renee told him to, except there were two blue wires, and he only cut one of them…

MALCOM
The timer?

HARPER
The timer stopped at 5 seconds. I saw it. The next thing I knew, I was leaving the room, and there was this explosion. I was thrown down the stairs.

MALCOM
It started again?

HARPER
I don’t know… I just know that Vince didn’t deserve to go out like that. He was a great guy.

MALCOM
And me? Do you think I’ll go out like that?

Harper moves closer to Malcom and kisses him.

HARPER
I don’t want to think about that.

The scene changes to Chad’s apartment with Chad and Van walking through the front door. Jean is making tea in the kitchen.

CHAD
Mom… I’m home.

Jean turns around to see Chad and Van.

JEAN
You brought company.

CHAD
This is Van.

JEAN
I’ve heard so much about you.

Jean crosses over to Van and shakes his hand.

CHAD
He has to stay here for a while, it’s kind of a complicated situation.

VAN
I won’t put either of you out of a bed, I’m just going to sleep on the couch.

JEAN
Nonsense, you can have Chad’s bed.

CHAD
Mom!

JEAN
Respect your elders, dear.

CHAD
Oh come on…

VAN
I’m sorry, I just wouldn’t feel comfortable.

JEAN
Alright, couch it is then. But first, would you like some tea?

VAN
Sure, I’d love some.

Van and Jean sit down for some tea, while Chad moves into his room. His phone rings and he picks it up.

CHAD
Hello?

RENEE (on phone)

Hey, it’s me… Renee…

CHAD
Oh, hey Renee.

RENEE (on phone)
I was just calling to make sure everything was OK with Van.

CHAD
Yeah, everything’s fine Renee.

RENEE (on phone)
Good…

CHAD
Is there anything else.

RENEE (on phone)

No… well… um… yeah, there’s this thing…

CHAD
Yeah?

RENEE (on phone)
Well, I just feel so odd asking you, but I don’t have anyone else to ask…

CHAD
Go ahead.

RENEE (on phone)

Well, you’re the only single guy I know, and I kinda need someone to go with me to my brother’s wedding on Sunday… I was just wondering if you’d be my… date… I mean, in a total platonic, friendship kinda way. Not a DATE date, but…

CHAD

(laughing) Yeah, I know what you mean. Alright. Sunday sounds fine.

RENEE (on phone)
I apologize for the short notice.

CHAD
That’s fine. See ya later.

Chad hangs up the phone and looks back out of the room. He sees Vic and Jean sitting in the other room, laughing and drinking tea. He sinks back into his room, and shuts the door.

The screen fades to black.
