Erie Mohawks won in their last at-bat beating the Kelso Hilanders by the
count of 6 to 5.

The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning. George Davis drew a
walk.  After an out was recorded, Tip O'Neill came up and he delivered a
base-hit.  After another out, O'Neill stepped in and he stole second base.
Johnny Mize followed and he drew a walk.  Arky Vaughan stepped into the box
and laced a single giving Lake Erie the victory and sending the 45,473
home-town fans home happy.  Lake Erie rapped out 11 hits for the night.

The winning pitcher was Hoyt Wilhelm(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 1 inning.
Kazuhiro Sasaki(0-1) was given the loss in relief.  He gave up 1 hit and 2
