Athens won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After two outs Mike Schmidt blasted a solo shot (his 4th of the season) resulting in an exciting win for Athens and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Athens won despite being out-hit by Kelso 7 hits to 4. The victory went to Harry Brecheen(2-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Frank Arellanes(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 hit and no walks in 2/3 of an inning. |
