Mike Schmidt slammed a homerun and had 4 RBI at Tiger Stadium as the Athens
Bobkittens came back dramatically to top the Harvey Wallbangers by the score
of 7 to 6.

Athens won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs
on 3 hits.  Lou Gehrig led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk.
Gordon Maltzberger then uncorked a wild pitch.  After an out was recorded,
Schmidt came to the plate and doubled resulting in a run.  Chuck Klein came
up and he lined a single.  Bill Madlock stepped into the box and singled
giving Athens the victory as 49,298 happy fans celebrated wildly.  Athens had
14 hits overall, while Harvey had 7.

The winning pitcher was Mark Eichhorn(3-2) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Maltzberger(0-1) took the loss in relief.  'Now that is what I call fun! I
just love baseball, especially games like this, of course,' Athens' manager
offered.  'Everyone at the stadium had a great time - did you see the fans go
wild there at the end?!'
