Bot 8th: Rickey Henderson robbed Roberto Clemente of an extra base hit. Jack Pfiester carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning and Pie Traynor had 2 base hits and 3 RBI at SAFECO Field as the Kelso Hilanders beat the Sacramento Soches 7 to 2. Pfiester(2-4) was in control of the game from the outset. He allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 4.91. The left-handed Pfiester had his no-hit bid broken up by Kirby Puckett who singled with nobody out in the 7th inning. Kelso rapped out 11 hits for the night. Jim Palmer(1-5) took the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings. 'Pfiester gave us exactly what we needed tonight,' Kelso's manager said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for strikes. They were really fooled by his change. Most of the time he had them chasing it.' |
