The Athens Bobkittens nipped the Cleveland Mayors 8 to 7 at Tiger Stadium in a
hard fought contest.

Athens had the winning rally in the bottom of the 8th inning with 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits.  Earl Averill initiated the scoring when he hit a
bases-empty home run (his 1st of the season).  Honus Wagner came to the plate
and stroked a one-base hit.  Athens' manager then called for a steal which
was successful.  Harry Heilmann was up next and he hit a deep fly scoring the
final run of the inning.  Cleveland made it exciting in the 9th, but they
were unable to push the needed runs across.

Harry Brecheen(5-4) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
Brecheen was helped out by Tom Henke who recorded his 9th save.  Dennis
Eckersley(1-3) was hit with the loss in relief.

'Some losses are harder to take than others' Cleveland's manager lamented
after the game.  'This was one of them.'
