Ridgeville Bandits beat the Limerick Hurlers by the count of 17 to 9. Simmons was in a groove all evening. The Limerick fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box. He hit a bases-empty home run (his 14th of the season) in the 4th inning, laced a base-knock in the 5th inning, doubled which was good for two runs in the 6th inning and doubled knocking in a run in the 9th inning. N. Ridgeville lit up the scoreboard in the 5th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits and the 9th inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits. The N. Ridgeville offense man-handled the Limerick pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings. Dennis Martinez(4-6) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Mel Harder earned his 1st save. Jim Devlin(2-2) suffered the loss. He gave up 8 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings of work. When questioned, N. Ridgeville's manager remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt this good - heck, it's been a while since we had a win period!' |
