Harvey won the game with an offensive outburst in the top of the 9th inning when they exploded for 7 runs on 6 hits. The key at-bat was by Ted Simmons who deflated the crowd as he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 2nd of the season). Kelso was out-hit by Harvey, 13 hits to 5. Mark Fidrych(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no runs. Kazuhiro Sasaki(1-3) ended up with the loss in relief. Harvey's manager was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there? You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey, that's what makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over 'til its over.' |
