George Van Haltren had 2 base hits at Tiger Stadium as the Brentwood Bearcats
pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the Limerick Hurlers by the count of 5
to 4.

Brentwood came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs using 2
hits.  After an out was recorded, Cal Ripken Jr. was the sparkplug when he
banged out a single.  One out later, Hank Greenberg stepped up to the plate
and he drew a walk.  Van Haltren then drew a walk to load the bases.  Juan
Gonzalez was up next and he slapped a one-base hit making Brentwood the
victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration.  Brentwood rapped out 12
hits for the night.

The victory was credited to Goose Gossage(1-2) who went 1 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 1 run. The loss was charged to Wilbur Cooper(1-2) in relief.  He
allowed 1 run and no hits in 1/3 of an inning.

'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Van Haltren noted.  'It was
looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it
really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there
at the end!'
