Barry Bonds blasted a homerun at Shibe Park as the Limerick Hurlers pulled off
a dramatic comeback beating the Cleveland Mayors by the count of 7 to
6.

Limerick won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 3
hits.  Boog Powell opened up the inning nicely when he slapped a one-base
hit, and an error was also committed.  After an out was recorded, Edd Roush
stepped in and he lined a base-hit, and an error was also committed, plating
a run.  Joe Cronin then drew a walk.  Goose Goslin was up next and he doubled
resulting in a mighty exciting win for Limerick and the 36,624 home town fans
in attendance.  The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5
times.

The victory went to Dick Hall(1-1) who went 2 innings, allowing 1 run. Dennis
Eckersley(1-4) absorbed the loss in relief.  'Now there is a lesson in
perseverance for you,' Bonds noted.  'It was looking pretty dim there for a
while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And
it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
