WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Babe Phelps blocked the plate, saving a run!

Shortstop Honus Wagner had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Tiger Stadium as the Athens
Bobkittens beat the Cleveland Mayors in 10 innings 8 to 7.

The game was deadlocked at 6 after nine full innings.  Athens was victorious
in the 10th inning.  Chuck Klein led off and he doubled.  Dick Allen was next
to the plate, but was promptly struck out.  After another out, Billy Herman
came to the plate and doubled scoring a run.  Ty Cobb came up and he was
walked intentionally.  Wagner stepped into the box and laced a base-hit
giving Athens the win much to the delight of the home town crowd.  This was
the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times.

The win was credited to Mark Eichhorn(5-2) who went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing
1 run. Joe Berry(0-2) was hit with the loss in relief.
