Dazzy Vance racked up an impressive total of 12 strikeouts as the Bat Cracking Bombers outscored the struggling Kelso Hilanders in 10 innings 4 to 1. The score was tied at 1 after nine. Bat Cracking came out on top in the 10th inning. Joe Torre led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk. A balk was called. After an out was recorded, Dan Brouthers stepped in and he reached on an error. Brouthers was running on the next pitch and he stole second. Ozzie Smith came to the plate and lined a base-hit driving in a run. Bat Cracking continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Ruben Sierra stepped up next and he ripped a base-knock as another two runners scored. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 7th inning. Vance(6-6) was the winner allowing 1 run in 9 innings. Bruce Sutter was credited with his 19th save. Mitch Williams(4-6) suffered the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 2 hits in 3 innings. Vance was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.' |
