Harvey came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 8th inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After two were out Heinie Manush began the rally when he slapped a one-base hit. Evers got a good lead and stole second. Gabby Hartnett then was walked intentionally. Johnny Pesky stepped in and he reached on an error. Riggs Stephenson stepped into the box and delivered a single plating two runs. Stephenson took second on the throw. Hinckley threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. The victory was credited to Roger Clemens(9-4) who went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs. Dick Radatz gained credit for his 15th save. The loss was charged to Rollie Fingers(3-4) in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 2 innings of work. |
