Right fielder Sam Thompson had 2 base hits as the Harvey Wallbangers topped
the Hinckley Buzzards by a score of 5 to 4 at Candlestick Park.

Harvey came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 8th inning with 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits.  After two were out Heinie Manush began the rally when
he slapped a one-base hit.  Evers got a good lead and stole second.  Gabby
Hartnett then was walked intentionally.  Johnny Pesky stepped in and he
reached on an error.  Riggs Stephenson stepped into the box and delivered a
single plating two runs.  Stephenson took second on the throw.  Hinckley
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

The victory was credited to Roger Clemens(9-4) who went 7 innings, allowing 3
runs. Dick Radatz gained credit for his 15th save.  The loss was charged to
Rollie Fingers(3-4) in relief.  It was a tough loss for him as he did not
allow an earned run in his 2 innings of work.
