WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Ernie Banks robbed Arky Vaughan of a base hit.

First baseman Johnny Mize had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the Lake Erie Mohawks
outscored the Brentwood Bearcats 5 to 3.

Lake Erie erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs
on 3 hits.  Joe Jackson led off and started the rally when he slapped a
one-base hit.  After an out was recorded, Joe Dimaggio stepped up to the
plate and he laced a single.  Mize then would ground out plating a run.
George Davis followed and he drew a walk.  Goose Gossage then let one slip
out of his hand for a wild pitch.  Jeff Kent kept the rally going and stroked

a single which was good for two more runs.  Kent took second on the throw.
Brentwood was out-hit by Lake Erie, 10 hits to 6.

Dick Hughes(5-3) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Hoyt
Wilhelm was credited with his 20th save.  Gossage(1-5) was hit with the loss
in relief.  He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 3 hits and 4
walks.
