Lake Erie did all the necessary damage in the 7th inning scoring 6 runners on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Dimaggio who quieted the crowd when he emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun (his 21st of the season). Brentwood had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. The victory was credited to Ed Reulbach(13-4) who went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs. Hoyt Wilhelm recorded his 21st save. Goose Gossage(1-6) was the losing pitcher in relief. He was not very effective, surrendering 3 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Brentwood's manager was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.' |
