Artist's
Statement My artwork in
the past years has dealt with the more unbelieveable aspects of humanity:genocide
in Rwanda, ethnic cleansing in Europe, torture in South America. And
while these seem like gruesome subjects to tackle, I believe firmly that
artists are to bear witness to their world in all its aspects; beautiful
and ugly.
For inspiration, I look to the beautiful endeavors of humans: African textiles, Islamic designs, Jazz, Poetry,Gothic cathedrals, Indian saries, to name a few. My work involves layering multiple images and using multiple techniques (intaglio, relief, monoprints, digital, collage) to reflect the multiple layers of history and hate in the subject matter. |
