Border dispute gains new life
The ruling, unless successfully appealed by City-Parish Government, could offer residents on the disputed border another chance to argue against a 2004 boundary shift that effectively moved dozens of Lafayette Parish families into neighboring Vermilion Parish.  The boundary line along Lafayette Parish's southwestern edge has been in question for decades.  But there was little controversy over the boundary until 1999, when City-Parish Councilman Lenwood Broussard challenged opponent Linda Duhon's candidacy based on her residency.  A judge ruled that Duhon, who had paid taxes and voted in Lafayette Parish, actually lived across the border in Vermilion Parish and could not run for the council seat.  Duhon and other residents in the area responded with a federal lawsuit, accusing local and state officials of conspiring to "exile" them from the parish.
