"JET" MAGAZINE UPDATE! Okay here it is you guys, like I promised, the article/scans of "JET" Magazine. Yesterday I reported Mariah appears on their May 01, 2000 issue of the magazine. I must say, it's nothing really special about it. The cover is the same pic as the "Thank God I Found You" single and there is only one pic inside and it's really small and we've all seen it and the part about Mariah is only a small paragraph, but I typed the whole thing out! So here it is! Enjoy! ********************************************** WHO ARE MUSIC'S NEW YOUNG MILLIONAIRES? To be young, gifted and black is a wonderful thing. And, to be a millionaire as well surely doesn’t hurt. Entertainers such as Master P, Lauryn Hill, Sean “Puffy” Combs and Mariah Carey know hoe it feels to be young, gifted, Black and wealthy, because they are among music’s new young millionaires. Percy Miller has taken the music world by storm within a few years as hip-hop superstar Master P. At Just 29, the popular rapper-entrepreneur already has net worth of $361 million! As a performer and CEO of No Limit Records-an independent record label that he owns 100 percent-Master P has created an entertainment conglomerate. Under the No Limit banner he owns No Limit Films, No Limit Sports, No Limit Clothes and No Limit Etc., which markets shoes and toys. His albums include “Ghetto D”, “MP Da Last Don”, and “Only God Can Judge Me”. Last year, Master P and basketball great Michael Jordan were named were the only two black to be named among the 40 Wealthiest Americans under 40 by Fortune magazine; Master P was the only entertainer to be named on the list. The 6 foot-4 Louisiana native also made Forbes magazines’ list of the Top 50 highest paid entertainers for two years in a row. Sean “Puffy” Combs, 29, is another one of music’s new young millionaires. Combs’ record label, Bad Boy, according to Forbes magazine pulled in $130 million is fiscal 1998 sales. He was named the magazine’s list of Top 50 Highest-Paid Entertainers last year with earnings of $53.5 million. Combs, who first established himself as a top producer for his work with Mary J. Blige and Jodeci, started raking in the big bucks a few years ago as CEO of Bad Boy Records and with the debut album “No Way Out”, which sold more than 5 million copies. The album churned out one of the biggest hit songs of 1997 and of his career, “I’ll Be Missing You”, a tribute to his slain best buddy, rap star Notorious B.I.G. Both the album and the song won Puffy Grammy Awards that year. He’s also had success with his line of clothing, Sean John, restaurants, and a magazine. Superstar songbird Mariah Carey, 30, has been in the money for some time now. Since she hit the music scene in 1990, she has gone on to sell more than 100 million albums. Named the best-selling female recording artist of the ‘90s, her millionaire status has come from the 13 No. 1 pop singles that she has generated throughout her celebrated career. Her hit tunes include “Vision Of Love”, “Someday”, “I Don’t Wanna Cry”, “Can’t Let Go”, “Hero”, “Dreamlover”, “Honey”, “One Sweet Day” and “Fantasy” Grammy Award-winning hip-hop songstress, Lauryn Hill, 24, is a millionaire. Last year Hill made Frammy history when she became the first female artist to earn five Grammys in the same year thanks to her solo debut album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”, which has sold more thank 5 million copies. “The Miseducationof Lauryn Hill” was the first rap album to earn a Grammy for Album Of The Year. In addition to performing, she’s also a noted songwriter. Last year she wrote and performed with the Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin on “A Rose Is Still A Rose”, which earned them both Grammy Nominations. Brandy, 21, has become a millionaire with her sexy, raspy singing voice. Both of her albums “Brandy” and “Never Say Never”, have sold more than 2 million copies of each. Her hit tunes include “I Wanna Be Down”, “Best Friend”, “Sittin’ Up In My Room” and “The Boy Is Mine”, a duet with Monica. In addition to the music, Brandy has also accured riches because of her starring role in UPN’s top-rated sitcom “Moessha”, with her motion picture “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” and TV Films “Cinderella” and “Double Platinum” and as a model for a cosmetics line. Will Smith, Queen Latifah, and LL Cool J are rap pioneers who still know how to put it down as top hip-hop artists. They’ve become millionaire through their music, TV Shows, and films, while rap star Ice Cube, another veteran, has become a millionaire through his music and films. Will Smith, as the Fresh Prince, first won fame along with his partner, DJ Jazzy Jeff, as the first rap group to win a Grammy Award in 1988. Just recently, Smith has been enjoying a second-wind of success as a rapper. Smith’s debut album, “Big Willie Style” sold more than 3 million copies with songs such as “Men In Black”, “Getting Jiggy Wit It”, “Just The Two Of Us” and “Miami”. He’s also the first rapper to won Best Rap Solo performance Grammy honors in 1997 and 1998. As an actor, he raked in millions on the sitcom “The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Aire”, now in syndication. On the silver screen, he was dubbed “Mr. Fourth of July” due to the release time of his box-office hits “Men In Black” and “Independence Day”. With those movie successes, along with that of “Enemy of the State” he reportedly commands $20 million per film! Queen Latifah is a millionaire with her many business ventures. Her 1993 rap album “Black Reign”produced the Grammy Award-winning song “U.N.I.T.Y.” Her flavor unit entertainment helped to discover the hit rap trio Naughty By Nature, and she manages LL Cool J and the rap group Outkast. Queen Latifah won fame on TV’s long running sitcom “Living Single”, now in syndication, and currently has her own talk show “Queen Latifah” which she co-produces. LL Cool J has been rolling in dough since he hit the music scene in the mid-‘80s. His songs include “I’m Bad”, “I Need Love”, “Doin’ It”, “Hey Lover” and “4, 3, 2, 1”. His work as an actor on “In The House”, now in syndication, helped him to become a millionaire along with his hit songs. He has also won fame for gis work in “halloween:H20” and in “Any Given Sunday” Ice Cube, one the core writers and founding members of the rap group NWA, scored big as a solo artist with the songs “ Steady Mobbin’,” “Today Was A Good Day” and “Bop Gun”. Ice Cube’s big bucks have also come from his work in film. In addition to appearing in the blockbuster flicks “Boyz In The Hood”, “Anaconda” and “Three Kings” he also starred in “Friday” and “Next Friday: He wrote an produced “Friday” which grossed $30 million and made Chris Tucker a star, and wrote and produced the film’s sequal “Next Friday” which has grossed more than $55 million. Jermaine Dupri, 27, also is one of music’s young millionaires. The hit making rapper, producer and CEO of So So Def Records was a millionaire at the age of 20 due to the phenomenal success of the work he did with his So So Def artists Kriss Kross and Da Brat, the first female rapper to go platinum. Then, a few years ago, Dupri earned even more money as the man who made Usher a superstar with the album “My Way”, which Dupri exectuive-produced. Dupri stepped from behind the scenes a couple of years ago to record his own album as a rapper, “Life In 1472”, which earned him a Grammy nomination and went on to sell millions. Rap Star Jay-Z, 29, came into the big bucks a short while ago with the release of his triple platinum album “Vol 2…Hard Knock Life”, which earned him a Grammy Award last year. His hit tunes include “Ain’t No Nigga”, “Hard Knock Life”, “The City Is Mine”, and “Sunshine”. In addition to that best-selling album, he is CEO of Roc-A-Fella Records, along with Damon Dash, and has a clothing line, Roc-A-Wear, which has been around for nearly three years. His current album “Vol. 3…The Life and Times of Shawn Carter”, has sold more than a million copies and is sure to cement his millionaire status even further. Music producer Rodney Jerkins is a mere 22 years old and already he’s a millionaire. Producing under the moniker Darkchild, Jerkins may not be a household name but the hit songs he’s written and produced for big-name singers certainly are well known. Recently inking a million-dollar deal, he is one of the youngest to start up his own record label, Darkchild. The classically trained pianist was behind Brandy and Monica’s Grammy Award-winning “The Boy Is Mine”, Whitney Houston’s “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay”, Brandy’s “On Top Of The World”, Joe’s “Don’t Wanna Be A Player”, Jennifer Lopez’s “If You Had My Love” and Toni Braxton’s latest, “He Wasn’t Man Enough For Me”. DMX, 28, and Juvenile, 25, are two of hip hop’s biggest names. The hit-making rappers have become millionaires with their chart-busting albums and singles. DMX made music history last year as the first performer to ever release two albums in the same year that both debuted at No.1 on the Hot 200 Billboard record charts. The album “It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot” and “Flesh Of My Flesh Blood of My Blood”, both went platinum. His popular songs spawned from the hit albums include “Ruff Ryders Anthem”, “Slippin’” and “What’s My Name”. His record sales increased like crazy when he was nominated for a Grammy for the first album and made an appearance in the movie “Belly” Juvenile is wealthy thanks to his platinum-selling tune “Back That Thang Up”. The song was an instant smash, along with his other big tune, “Ha”, and helped to propel Juvenile to millionaire status. His album, “400 Degreez” remains on the Billboard Hot 200 Chart. His latest album “Tha G-Code” was released in December and has sold a million copies and counting. Juvenile records under the Cash Money recording label along with fellow “Cash Money Millionaires” Lil’ Wayne and B.G., whose hit “Bling Bling” features Juvenile, Baby, Turk, and Manny Fresh.

"CAN'T TAKE THAT AWAY" UPDATE! As you all know the "Can't Take That Away" video was supposed to premier on MTV LAST WEEK and we have no word from it, well, it turns out that "Can't Take That Away(Mariah's Theme)" has DEBUTED on BET and has been added to Medium Rotation on BET. And it's even as gone as far as to debut on "THE BOX" AND VH1 where it's at New Rotation on VH1. However the version VH1 plays is taken from "DIVAS 2000", which is not the actual footage. So, it still has not premiered on MTV, and I haven't seen it yet, still, so I'll keep you informed when I get more info!

MARIAH/CHRISTINA UPDATE! You remember all those rumors going on about Mariah and Christina?? Well, it turns out they are completely flase. I have already mentioned that they are flase, but here is even more proof, taken from Christina's official website: RUMOR MILL: MARIAH CAREY * Mariah Carey refused to take pictures with Christina on 'Top Of The Pops.' * Is it true that Mariah and Christina don't get along? * I heard a rumor that Mariah Carey did not want Christina to perform at 'Divas 2000.' So VH-1 put Christina on 'Men's Strike Back.' I know Christina was a huge admirer of Mariah. I also heard that Mariah did not even want to take a picture with Christina. FALSE. Christina could not do VH-1's 'Divas 2000' because of a commitment to perform on Saturday Night Live the same night. TONI LIKES MC!!!! Toni Braxton did an interview recently with the Los Angeles Times and this is what she said about Mariah: Q:What artists do you admire? A:"I'm a huge Celine Dion fan. Ultimately, what they'll find is a sweet, well-crafted anthem of personal empowerment in which Carey deftly straddles the line between everywoman and soothsayer. MC/ALISON BOOK - PHONY! Just like I expected and reported, the "supposed" book about Mariah titled "Mariah And Me", written by Alsion, is again FALSE! There is no such book out and and is only a rumor that pops up every once in a while. Just as proof, check out an article dated May 19, 1996 about the same thing all Mariah fans were shocked about! IT'S JUST A RUMOR PEOPLE! Here's the old article: ____________________________ I MADE MARIAH A STAR, SAYS HER HOOKER SISTER! Mariah Carey's sister has sensationally cliamed that she launched the superstar's singing career... with her earnings as a hooker! In an explosive new book, Alison tells how her life of vice paid for the limousine which took Mariah to her first singing audition. Alison says she also bough Mariah her first stage clothes and gave her cash for food and rent before she became a huge star with hits like Vision Of Love. Yet, Alison, 33, a former heroin addict infected with the HIV virus, claims Mariah, 26, has now turned her back on her when she needs her most. MORE INSULTS BY JOAN! After making a very rude comment about Mariah back in 1998 at the Oscars, Joan Rivers became the #1 most hated person by Mariah fans and recently, Mariah and Joan have put that behind them and made up. In fact, Joan EVEN appeared in Mariah's Tour Opening Video!! But....Joan in back to her mean ways! On a recent "Politically Incorrect" show, they were talking about sex on the 2nd date. And Joan said, "If elephant man was sitting next to Mariah Carey with 30 dollars in his pocket, she would jump him." I find this very insulting and I really don't know what Joan's problem is! Maybe she should consult her local doctor for a head examination!!

MC GOES SPANISH?? It's rumred that a Spanish translation is in the works of Mariah's song "After Tonight", taken from the "Rainbow" album. I think this song would sound very godd in Spanish. The song already has a Spanish vibe to it, don't you think?? If my Spanish is correct, "After Tonight" in Spanish would be "después esta noche"!! (USELESS INFO, HUH???)

MC/CHRISTINA "CATFIGHT" RUMOR UPDATE! After Divas 2000 there were rumours that Mariah prevented that Christina Aguilera would also be on the show. This is not true. Mariah was on Z100 and she told us that this was just a rumour and that the reason Christina was on Men Strike Back was because she was asked to because they wanted more men to watch the show and thought Christina would help that happen. Z100 also said that no one should buy Alison's book. But in my opinion, I don't think there is such a book! Neither do the people on the US show "The View" they called Alison a rotten snitch!! MARIAH'S NEW COMMERCIAL! While in Japan on her "Rainbow Tour" Mariah took the time to do a commercial for "Nescafé" with Japanese comedy-star Akashiya Sanma. Below is a screen capture! And while speaking of that commercial, read the following article that includes a tid-bit about Mariah and Akashiya doing the commercial: Here's a note of "passing" interest for Tokyoites. You will be seeing more and more buses going by decked out in huge, wraparound ads in the near future, especially in the spendy Shibuya and Shinjuku districts. The Tokyo metropolitan government relaxed an ordinance that, prior to April 10, restricted certain bus advertisements to 2.7 square meters. These once puny ads can now consume up to 30 square meters, around the size of a one-room "mansion." So now, for better or worse, we can gaze upon the immense and toothful visages of celebrities such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey as the roaring guzzlers zoom by, belching their fumes. Nestle Japan is one big corporation that has jumped on the bandwagon, purchasing the rights to 35 buses on which it is advertising its coffee and Kit Kat chocolate bars. We'll see if Carey and comedian Akashiya Sanma, who are plugging Santa Marta canned coffee, can give Tiger Woods and Asahi (Wonda coffee) a run for the money. Virgin Records, Epson, the Japanese Red Cross society, Lipton Ice Tea, Lotte chewing gum, Haagen Dazs and Recruit have also sprung for entire buses worth, and according to Dentsu ad agency, BMG Funhouse has a Whitney bus. Imagine the violence that might erupt if the driver of a Whitney bus pulls up alongside a Mariah bus at a red light and starts revving his engine. Partisan passengers will be out onto the streets in the blink of an eye and the fists will be flying. It will take Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara and a Celine Dion busload of likeminded peacemakers to restore order. So, what does the new bus ad law really mean? Here's what they tell you. The bus system is a consistent money loser and city planners claim that the moving billboards will help recoup some of the deficits. By making 240 of its 1,800 buses available for big screen ads, the city estimates it will generate an extra 300 million yen in revenue. The real reason is that Ishihara envisions Tokyo as Las Vegas East and gigantic bus ads are the first step in his journey toward consummate commercialism. When Ishihara gets those roulette tables happening, Tokyo will be taking in an additional 300 million yen a minute. No doubt about it. This is what is in store, Tokyo. First, big bus ads. Next thing you know, the drunken remains of The Byrds are singing at the casino down the street. And you thought the day you saw people like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston riding the bus would be the day the music died.

"CAN'T TAKE THAT AWAY" VIDEO UPDATE! PORTER (THANKS AGAIN!!!!) tells me that in fact, some people have already seen the "Can't Take That Away" video. He syas that it premiered on "THE BOX" and he mentioned She's in this apartment whatching the tv and on the tv it shows the peoples videos. Near the end she walks to the balcony and opens the door and it's raining and she gets wet. It's funny because the video seemed to be going in slow motion while the song is regular pace but it still looks okay. that's basically it ! I dunno about you, but I can't wait to see it!

WHERE'S THE VIDEOS?? Well, I don't know what's up with the premiers of Mariah's videos. On April 18, "Crybaby" was supposed to premier on the BET show "Jam Zone"...but it didn't and on April 19 (yesterday) "Can't Take That Away" was supposed to premier on the MTV show "Total Request Live (TRL)"...but it didn't either! So, I don't really understand that! But, stay tuned to BET and MTV to see the "Crybaby" and "Can't Take That Away" videos. C'MON..... Thanks to PORTER for bringing this up......Many people have been getting concerned that the "Rainbow" Tour video recorded in Canada will be bad because they have read the following review: Hey Guys! I went to the Toronto concert last night and had the best time ever! I love Mariah! She is so amazing but the concert also kinda dissapointed me because of her voice. She nailed Emotions, My All, Always Be My Baby, X-Girlfriend and Crybaby. The problem was Mariah didn't do any high notes (like the "won't you please. pleeease" in Dreamlover, I am not talking about the kinda high notes she does in emotions) and she couldn't hold some notes (like "all that you turned out to...BE" in Vision of Love or "To be able to feel this WAY" in Thank God I Found You) Instead she did this repetitive thing with the long notes. Her voice was also lower then it is on her albums and she lip synched higher parts like on: * Fantasy * Heartbreaker * Dreamlover (the PLEASE) * Against All Odds (I am not sure if she lip synched this) * Can't Take That Away (The part she always lip synchs) * Honey I am really starting to worry about Mariah's voice. Is this a perminet thing? or does she need some rest or does she need to take care of herself? How was her voice at other concerts? any lip synching on hard parts? Here are todays articles, which are separated by stars (****) ******************************************************** T.O. turns on to Mariah It's been said in the past that pop music's uber-diva Mariah Carey doesn't like to tour due to stage nerves. But that certainly wasn't the case last night at the Air Canada Centre where the seven-octave singer finally made her Toronto performing debut with a relaxed and rambling 2 1/2-hour show. In fact, it was Carey's first-ever Canadian concert despite a staggeringly successful previous decade of No. 1 hits too numerous to mention and album sales of 125 million worldwide. The sold-out crowd of 17,000 screaming, sign-waving fans were obviously jazzed about finally getting to see her in a live setting, which -- incidentally -- was being taped for an upcoming TV special. Also adding to the drama was the fact that the 30-year-old performer had earlier postponed her April 7 concert here due to a case of food poisoning and dehydration. Bad raw oysters in Atlanta were to blame. "What's up Toronto? I finally made it," said Carey, initially dressed in a skimpy, silver halter top, hip-hugging jeans and silver high-heeled sandals, before making enough costume changes to make even Cher jealous. Carey's entrance was preceded by a way-too-long video skit in which she fought off her "evil twin" -- the black-haired Bianca -- while several stars, ranging from Aretha Franklin to Barney, made testimonials about their supposed rivalry. Still, being silly -- even cheesy at times -- seemed to be a high priority for the child-like Carey, who staged everything from a WWF-like boxing match during her recent hit Heartbreaker to a beauty contest (complete with a sash, tiara and red roses) during the older favourite, Dream Lover. Trust me, that's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of play-acting. Carey also stopped repeatedly to sip tea, have her face attended to by makeup artist "Chris," who appeared in drag during the beauty contest skit, and was downright chatty and indulgent with fans. In fact, she invited several concert-goers -- one carrying a sign that said: "No more oysters! Stay diva-licious!" -- on stage with her. And she rewarded all of the young fans, even one from Ottawa whose introduction brought a chorus of boos given the current hockey playoffs with the Leafs, with champagne and chocolate. It turned out the Toronto concert was the last on Carey's month-long tour in support of her latest album, Rainbow, and her first North American jaunt in seven years. She told the crowd she was feeling down about the road trip coming to an end. "I'm kind of sad,"she said. "I've gone through a lot of emotions 'cause you know I don't tour a lot." The good news for local Carey-lovers is that the singer is scheduled to begin filming the often-made A Star Is Born in Toronto later this summer. In the meantime, they'll have memories of her often-thrilling voice as she hit the high notes during such guilty pleasures as Emotions and Vision Of Love. Some audience members may have something even more tangible, given Carey threw many of her costumes and set pieces into the audience as the concert wound down. It took forever and 11 days and 15 minutes for Mariah Carey to make her Toronto debut, but once the pop superstar took the stage at the Air Canada Centre, it seemed as if she would never leave. Last night's performance, the final stop in the New York native's worldwide Rainbow Tour, was a meandering, 2˝-hour indulgence. And the 17,000 fans at the sold-out show stuck with her through it all: every sappy appreciation of them, each giggle, all eight costume changes and every tinkle of the glass-shattering money notes that made her famous. Slightly hoarse at times, but none the worse for the food poisoning (referred to as "a little scheduling problem") that postponed her appearance earlier this month, Carey, 30, demonstrated why she has sold more than 128 million records worldwide. First, there are the songs - 14 No. 1 singles, more than any other female artist, and she's had a hand in writing and producing most of them. She enthralled the crowd with some of her most engaging ballads, including "Always Be My Baby," from "Dreamlover," and "Close My Eyes." And she had them on their feet for the danceable uptempo tunes like "Emotion," "Heartbreaker," and the 1995 hit "Fantasy," on which she fused her hiphop relations with an appearance by Old Dirty Bastard. Yet she delights in poking fun at her Cinderella image. The show included a face-off with her British, raven-haired alter ego Bianca, who first appeared in the video for "Heartbreaker," from her ninth album of the same name. Of course, you know who won, but the audience was genuinely entertained by the potentially cheesy skit. Opening act Da Brat, whose own segment was lazy and disjointed, came out to deliver a funky, crowd pleasing rap during the tune, cementing the notion that her foul-mouth is best in small doses. Less impressive was the beauty pageant routine for which Carey came out in tiara and fuschia evening gown, playing up her princess image. Backed by a five-piece band, she posed and pranced across the stage - Carey doesn't really dance, given the ever-present stilletos - seeming to enjoy herself and determined to make sure her fans did as well. "My whole purpose and point with this tour is to have fun and make sure my fans have a good time," she said. At one point she invited more than a dozen of them on stage to share champagne and choclate kisses. She tossed out stuffed animals and parts of her wardrobe, noting the tour is over and she doesn't need them anymore. The show was recorded for a TV special. Eyebrows were raised and criticism was thrown from left right center about the disgrace she bought to the female kind and sadly enough these are normally the words from her own clan. It is understood that men has nothing much to complain but hearing all stabbing type words coming out from the ladies then it considered something rather unjust to Mariah and also to the women themselves. If jealousy is the issue then things are easily seen as Miss Carey's unique 8 octaves voice and great talent is not something than one can deny despite the skimpy clothes. Public proved their disapproval and approval of her by making her the best selling female artist alone in America recently when she received her 15th number one hit, "Thank God I found you". In Japan, she has the long record of having the bestseller album "#1's", breaking Whitney Houston's previous record and in this land of sambal petai and coconut tree, we saw for ourselves that her albums sell more than the hottest pisang goreng around. Analyzing the problems surrounding the hate, most of it boils down to the fact that she's a woman. If a male artist were to display his assets carelessly, he'll be known as a hot and desirable person. How about the argument on the lesser talented boy bands? They bopped and made horrible noises but no one seems to give a damn about how annoying they are especially when they are just nice to look at? Fair enough as normally all girls will be the first to gorged over them and no form of insult will ever be thrown. It's no a wonder when during an interview with any successful female artist, ranging from Whitney Houston to Lauryn Hill, they will be highlight the fact that music industry is much a male dominated arena and how hard it was to get support even from their own gender. People might be nice enough to call you or whoever female artist a diva but then again it just comes down to plain bitch. Michael Jackson does it and if Mariah Carey did have any form of facial enhancement it's rather unjust to point fingers to her, as I believe the public only wants the best and beautiful thing. Please send an email of names of any artist that you know that never care about image and looking good to me. Even if they don't, I'm sure they are beautiful enough not to do so. I believe it's a cruel world full of competition from other heavyweights, as music industry is not just about singing so any form of image change or just being different is an added bonus to the fans rather being and looking the same for 10 albums. So the next time you listen to any songs that you don't really fancy because of the artist and image, please reconsider, it's hard work enough to do a recording and extra hard to produce chart topping hits unless they have the talent. I'm trying hard to like boy bands despite of myself so ladies - please be nice to your sisters. Sisters are doin' it for themselves? I don't think so! Ultimately, what they'll find is a sweet, well-crafted anthem of personal empowerment in which Carey deftly straddles the line between everywoman and soothsayer. She fleshes out her lyrics with a performance that comfortably glides from soft verses to appropriately dramatic belting at the chorus. While there's certainly a familiarity here that will trigger comparisons to past hits like ``Hero,'' a sharp ear will detect a raw, emotional edge in Carey's vocal that elevates ``Can't Take That Away'' miles above previous efforts. Added pleasure and inspiration can be found in David Morales' uptempo dance remix, which is destined for club saturation. The remix is also a suitable entry to radio stations in need of a respite from the ongoing glut of chirpy-voiced teen acts.

HELP THE MARIAH FAN! On April 17, (tomorrow) MARIAH's FRIEND and FAN, Janel Spiegel, will go to the hospital in Philidelphia where Janel will have extensive surgery performed on her leg, hip, etc. Almost 10 years ago, Janel fell while skating and broke her hip. This caused her the have vasscular nerosis and aurthritis of the back, among other symtoms. She has lived in much pain since then. Mariah and Janel often communicate and have met and are friends. ARTICLE (ONLY ONE) O' THE DAY! Ain't it a shocker??? I only have one article for you today kiddies! Sorry but here it is!! ****************************************** Carey Nation treated to a weird concert Mariah Carey at the FleetCenter, Boston, last night. It's been a strange month for superstar Mariah Carey, so it figures most of her two-hour-plus FleetCenter concert was very weird, likely the oddest the venue will see for a while. Carey ate bad oysters in Atlanta and suffered food poisoning that landed her in Mass. General. She postponed her original April 4 Boston show because of it. This week, she sang Supremes songs with Diana Ross in another Diva special for VH1. But all that isn't nearly as loony as her current show. Stuffed with more padding than a Wonderbra, at the one hour mark, it was only seven songs old. That's because it began with an endless cartoon/video bit introducing us to Carey's evil alter ego Bianca. Then there were the MTV contest winners to bring on stage. Then there was the boxing match between Mariah and ``Bianca.'' Guess who won? Then there was a beauty pageant sketch with Carey singing in gown (one of six outfit changes before the encores) and tiara. Who is advising this woman and what are they telling her? Her career is in the stratosphere. Money and concepts are no barriers, and she crams the show with corny, truly muddled bits like Bad Mariah/Good Mariah and catfighting beauty queens? Anyone who saw her previous (and first) show in this area at the Centrum knows she can knock people flat just by doing the songs, which is what made all this other mishmash so frustrating. The local chapter of Carey Nation, her diehard fans, loved it all but more casual followers found it bizarre, very bizarre. Thankfully, the final third of the show was quality stuff. ARTICLES O' THE DAY! Basically today, there is no news so I'l just supply you with some good ole' articles! If you've been if before...you know the ordeal but for new visitors...articles are separated by stars (**) ******************************************** Acting out childlike star fantasies You could blame it on her evil alter-ego, Bianca. Or you could blame it on the oysters. Or you could blame it on the star-making machinery that, while catapulting her to the top of the charts, indulged her escape into a fantasy world as weird as Michael Jackson's Neverland. However you explain it, Mariah Carey's sold-out show Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden had very little to do with music and much to do with acting like a superstar -- acting the way a little girl plays dress-up, not like a 30-year-old pro who is the best-selling female recording artist of the past decade. Parading in six-inch heels and one scanty, bosom-and-buttocks-revealing outfit after another, Carey went from pert sailor to satin-pajama princess to beauty pageant queen. She flounced. She giggled. She introduced her makeup artist (he's Christopher, a cross-dresser from Hicksville). She tossed stuffed animals and chocolate kisses to the crowd and prattled on about how she travels so much that "I live out of suitcases, which is kind of interesting." She also sat forlornly onstage with a child's blanket, cuddling a giant teddy bear. Her mannerisms created the eerie voyeuristic sensation that we got from those video clips of Jon-Benet Ramsey provocatively dressed at her beauty contests. Except instead of a child-woman, this was a woman-child. During Carey's frequent exits to change outfits, listeners were fed videos of celebrities from Snoop Dogg to Aretha Franklin to Barney gushing about Carey's warmth and sweetness -- just in case that image hadn't already been sufficiently rammed down their throats. Incidentally, there was some music -- perhaps for half the set the Huntington-raised Carey actually emitted some of her fabulous, octave-leaping swoops and slides. Backed by four singers and a five-piece band, she ran through syrupy hits including the upbeat "Emotion," the gushing "Thank God I Found You," the come-on "Honey" and the hip-hop flavored "Heartbreaker" (complete with cameos from Da Brat and Missy Elliott). Young females clearly relate to her lyrics, which alternate between love fantasies, pep talks -- "when you feel that hope is gone/look inside you and be strong" -- and tales of personal woe. Carey sounded heartfelt on "Petals," a teary, autobiographical ballad whose accounts of being used by the music industry and having a miserable relationship with a patriarch (presumably her ex-husband, Sony's U.S. president, Tommy Mottola) may explain her childlike behavior. Marketing may explain her behavior, too. Carey is a studio artist, not a live performer. By padding her show with juvenile fantasies, producers not only make it easier for her to get through a two-hour set, they also draw in ever-younger, more malleable listeners. Based on the number of pre-teens in the audience, Carey is clearly going head-to-head with the Britney Spears and Christina Aguileras of the pop world. It was impossible to know where Carey's imagination ended and marketing began. "Maybe I grew up a little too soon," she sang. Maybe she hasn't grown up at all. At her Madison Square Garden show Tuesday night, the star sang one song while nuzzling a giant stuffed bear. She delivered another in her pajamas, clutching a heart-shaped pillow, while a third saw her realizing a young girl's dream of winning a beauty contest. To involve the crowd further, Carey gleefully tossed out toy animals and chocolate kisses, and displayed videos of herself riding a horse and playing on a swing. When one of her shoes fell off during a number, she exclaimed, "Cinderella!" No wonder the evening sometimes seemed less like a concert than like the world's biggest slumber party. Then again, one of Carey's biggest draws has always been to immerse her fans in a girly world of dreams. Many of the songs she performed Tuesday found her singing about lovers that exist only in your head, or about sights as fanciful as rainbows and butterflies. Compared to this, Britney Spears provides an unflinching view of the depths of human suffering. Carey's pink vision of life helps explain the preponderance of very young girls at the show. For the price of a ticket, they got to see a far more theatrical evening than Carey's only other full-scale road show, which took place seven long years ago. Elaborately silly skits connected the songs, aiming — without success — at camp. Carey did show some awareness of her hyper-feminine image and so tried to toughen things up a bit — although in a disconnected way. She opened the show with a voiceover and some prepared video pieces detailing a character named Bianca — which was Carey in a black wig, providing her with a bitchy and cartoonish alter ego. Musically, Carey tried to add an edge, and a cynical relevance, by putting more hip-hop effects into her songs. She offered guest appearances from Da Brat and Missy Elliott, along with some token scratching. But it turned out to be mostly window dressing over what remains faceless R&B and pure pop schmaltz. Her lyrics offer such an idealized view of love that even Hallmark might reject them as too sappy. Carey also played to fantasies in her singing. She never failed to hit 15 notes when one would have done just fine. It's the athletic quality of her singing that seems to concern her most — the range, not the feeling. In song after song, she offered daring vocal feats, treating a phrase like a javelin, to be judged by how far it can be thrown. Accordingly, Carey indulged that dog whistle of hers more than ever. Carey checked in to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment for dehydration that was apparently the result of food poisoning from a batch of bad oysters. She was released last Wednesday night. "Mariah's very grateful. She received excellent care and is feeling great," reports Cindi Berger, Carey's publicist. While Carey's hospitalization only temporarily halted the stunning singer's Rainbow tour, the effects of this serious condition can put a permanent halt to life itself. Luckily for Carey, she received prompt medical attention long before her dehydration became life-threatening. Nevertheless, fans in Boston and Toronto were concerned when her shows were canceled. "I know my daughter Alexa was disappointed," shares Walls. "She had tickets and didn't get to go. We all hope Ms. Carey is feeling better." Alexa, as well as the rest of Carey's fans who have consumed 120 million records to date, may get her chance sooner than she thinks. Carey was in fiery form last Sunday in New York at VH-1's Divas 2000 taping, and her sold-out Rainbow tour resumed last night at Madison Square Garden. The matching outfits were breath-taking and supplied by Mariah. She gave the silver dress to Ross and kept the gold dress for herself. After the songs Mariah said: "Whoever thought I'd be lending the world's biggest diva a dress?" Later, Mariah sang her new single, "Can't Take That Away", and dropped to her knees for its final verse. The show ended with all divas singing "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Mariah Faith Hill, Donna Summer, Diana Ross and host Hilary Swank each received a gift basket worth about $20,000. Fueled by the threat of all that could go wrong (and right), Divas Live '98 and '99 brought VH1 its best ratings ever. Now the show returns for a third installment, Divas 2000: A Tribute to Diana Ross, for which the music network willingly rips up its Divas playbook, tossing out the hugely popular live format and any notion of superstar parity. Fresh from announcing a summer tour with two stand-in Supremes, Ross re-emerged Sunday to tape this packaged salute, which airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. Performing at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden, the venue's smaller stage, she was in exquisite vocal form, easily outshining back-up players Faith Hill (Divas '99) and Mariah Carey (Divas '98). Only Donna Summer, also in a supporting role, really seemed to belong up there - displaying a full-bodied voice that is among pop music's most underrated. But it was the bigger issue - why this tribute now? - that lingered like fog over these proceedings. It would be one thing if Ross had recently made some Santana-like comeback worthy of grand celebration. But let's face it: This talented lady hasn't cracked the charts in 15 years, preferring, admirably, to raise her two younger children, while occasionally touring and releasing so-so albums. The two video montages meant to honor her seemed only to emphasize the huge gaps in her resume, particularly as the narrator jumped from her film triumphs of the '70s straight to the present day. The VH1 spotlight falls upon her now, out of nowhere, because of a heavy-handed arrangement with the promoter of her summer concert tour. In return, VH1 hoped that this Divas show would be the first look at Ross reunited with real Supremes Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong. But the Ross-Wilson-Birdsong deal fell through, and, like so many other would-be Supremes sponsors, VH1 gambled and lost. Still, that doesn't mean that this broadcast isn't worth tuning in for. In fact, Ross, 56, appeared surprisingly likeable, knowing just how far to take her diva self-parody. And vocally, she could not have been any better, elevating banal pop hits such as "Touch Me in the Morning" with jazzy phrasing and crystalline execution. Though VH1 producers promised "surprises," there weren't any. When Ross began the instantly recognizable intro to "Endless Love," the logical cameo from her duet partner Lionel Richie did not materialize, though he was in New York all weekend, opening for Tina Turner. Later there was a short set with new, no-name tourmates Lynda Laurence and Scherrie Payne, members of the meaningless, post-Diana Supremes of the 1970s. Though they have yet to rehearse extensively as a trio, the three seemed well enough in sync - hardly the disaster Ross detractors are predicting for the tour. The rest of the evening offered sporadic pleasures. Summer earned an instant standing ovation just for showing up and then blew the roof off with "Bad Girls." Carey, just out of the hospital after a bout of food poisoning, was best during a playful mother-daughter-style romp with Ross, belting out "Baby Love" and "Stop in the Name of Love" - the only true star interaction of the night. Hill's three songs, which included "Love Child," were utterly forgettable, so much so that Ross forgot her during a thank-you speech. A torturous interlude from young female vocal quartet Destiny's Child was a time-waster, as was a recasting of "I'm Coming Out" from the drag queen RuPaul. Of course, the music network has never really gotten any of its Divas Live shows precisely right. While the first edition boasted Aretha Franklin and Celine Dion, it was saddled with lightweights Shania Twain, Gloria Estefan, and Carey. Last year VH1 programmers were on the brink of greatness when they booked Turner, Whitney Houston, Cher, and Elton John, but they mucked it up by throwing in Hill, Brandy, and LeAnn Rimes to young down the demographic. Still, VH1 continues to make hay with this franchise, even if it has rendered the term "diva" meaningless through overuse and by misapplying it to paper dolls like Brandy. True divas are, of course, distinctive women who have triumphed as spectacularly as they have failed - onstage and off - during long, dramatic lives. Ross certainly qualifies, and she would have been perfect in the '98 or '99 all-star lineups. But presenting her this way - as a star with no equal - probably won't endear her to anyone. In fact, it's the stuff the at-home audience isn't likely to see that would probably win her the new fans she'll need to fill those big arenas this summer. After the all-star finale of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," Ross returned for some impromptu tour rehearsal with Payne and Laurence, transforming the theater into a '70s disco with a rousing "I Will Survive." FIGHT FOR MC! Every Saturday night in the USA, a show called "Saturday Night Live" airs. "Saturday Night Live" is supposed to be a "comedy" wixed in with skits and music guests. Mariah has been their musical guest before. That made a very, VERY, VERY, rude comment on Sturday night by stating: "Singer Mariah Carey was hospitalized in Boston this week after suffering complications resulting from food poisoning. Hospital officials said that Mariah started doing much better as soon as they found a hospital gown that made her look like a whore." "CAN'T TAKE THAT AWAY" SINGLE UPDATE! Well, atleast we know Sony is making some progresion! A promo single of "Can't Take That Away" has been sent out to radio stations. The "Can't Take That Away" PROMO single contains the following tracks: 1) Can't Take That Away - Radio Edit (4:01) 2) Can't Take That Away - Morales Club Mix (3:57) 3) Can't Take That Away - Album Version (4:32) The cover to the PROMO of "Can't Take Take That Away" is the same as the "Valentines" CD Cover. The picture you see below is some low-quality thing I MADE UP to demonstrate what the promo looks like. It doesn't look exactly like this but quite similar. I do not think it will be the actual single cover, though.....that is if the single is ever released! But don't expect to hear the song on the radio immedietely. They will probably wait until the video premiers on TV, which will most likely be late April or early May...so stay tuned!

SONY BACKS DOWN After receiving the petitions and e-mails everyday.....Sony Music is NOW saying that they never had planned NOT to release "Can't Take That Away". (yeah, right!) So they are trying to create an image of perdect little people release SOOOOOOOOOOO many Mariah singles without any flaws. They are saying that this was JUST a rumor. However, we, as fans, are smarter than that to get tricked with this joke. They are now saying that "Can't Take That Away" WILL be released with "Crybaby" being the b-side! Sounds pretty good to me! However, they need to admit they were not planning on releasing it!

What I am saying is that this is NOT the one that is long and is made in England. MUSIC VIDEO NEWS Yesterday, the "Against All Odds" video premiered on VH1. I missed it however!! But I saw a small portion of it. It scenes taken from the "Homecoming Special" and the "Rainbow" Tour. MC RELEASED Mariah was released from the hospital and has completely recovered. Mariah will go home to New York and sleep a day until she films "Divas 2000" on Sunday! After that, Mariah will go on to do her show in New York, Boston, then Toronto. I'm glad MC is better! (Of course she is.....duh! HE! HE!) Well, anyway....to those who sent Mariah a "get well" wish yesterday or the night before.....I was unable to send Mariah a card in time because she was released from the hospital. However, ALL the messages sent to me have been forwarded to Mariah!!!!

MC "WEDDING" UPDATE Yesterday, I gave you part of Mariah's so-called "WEDDING" pics and here is another one: Yes, they may look convincing to some people but, To me however this picture looks fake and even if it isn't a fake one, why should it proove that Mariah and Luis are married? Cause people....I know you wanna hear it.....but the truth is...they aren't married!!!!

MARIAH AND WESTLIFE SHEDULED DUET This is the real deal here folks. There were rumors before, but not it's official! Irish boy band Westlife celebrated its new, record-breaking U.K. No. 1 hit with a nonstop party Monday in New York. The groups fifth single, "Fool Again," debuted on the top of the U.K. singles chart, making the band the first act ever to top the chart with its first five singles. Westlife landed in the Big Apple just as new U.K. chart details came out and promptly went on a well-deserved tour of the city's Irish bars. Westlife comprises Mark Feehilly, Kian Egan, Bryan McFadden, Shane Finlan and Nicky Byrne, the latter of whome - at 21 - is the group's oldest member. The boys said that they hope their widespread European appeal will carry over to the U.S. With its sights set on winning over U.S. audiences, Westlife will likely get a huge boost shortly by recording a track with megastar Mariah Carey. The said the session with Carey is set to take place sometime in May. Westlife's eponymous U.S. debut album was released Tuesday and the first single from the album is the ballad "Swear It Again." And I am not saying it will go completely through because it was also official that Mariah and Lauren Hill would do a duet together called "Crystal Ball" but when Mariah couldn't make it to the session, they decided just to drop the idea. But, maybe this will go a little better!

MARIAH'S "MERRIAGE" UPDATE THANKS SO MUCH TO DESIREE FOR THIS! Okay, the so called "marriage" pictures in "TV Y NOTAS", are from where Mariah went to Morocco back in the Spring of 1999. Most of those pictures appeared in "Mirabella" magazine with Mariah on the cover. MC UPDATE As you know, Mariah was hospitilized from complications from food poisoning. Cindy Burger, MC's publisist said that she is much better and is just sleeping silently at the moment not to worry! MC ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL Mariah was admitted to the Massachusetts General Hospital last night for dehyrdation and complications from food poisoning. As I reported, Mariah said she was ill from eating raw sea food in Atlanta. But she also commented that it wasn't that big of a deal. Apparently, it got a little more serious. Due to this, Mariah was forced to cancel her show in Boston, Massachusetts. And to those people who were planning to go to that concert: That concert in Boston has been reschduled for Thursday, April 13th at 7:30 p.m. All April 4th tickets will be honored for the April 13th performance. Refunds are available at the point of purchase and should be made prior to show time. But don't worry too much people! MC is okay! She'll be out very soon!

BRAT'S "UNRESCRICTED" JUST AS A REMINDER: Da Brat's "Unrescricted" album will be in stores April 11, 2000. It will feature many guests artist, including our girl, MARIAH!! MC GRACES ANOTHER COVER(S)! Mariah seems to very popular with "FRESH" magazine lately! Mariah was on their February and April covers and now appears on their May cover! Go pick it up! By the way, it's a picture from the 1999 "Billboard" Music Awards! And in addition to the "FRESH" magazine cover, she's also on the cover of "Scholastic Math". Which you probably won't be able to find because it's only distributed to schools in America!

MARIAH AND LUIS MARRIED?? There are rumors about Mariah and Luis being married secretly in September. There are also reports about pictures of this supossed "wedding" in a Spanish magazine called "TV NOTAS". What do I think of it? I don't think it's true. "ALL THAT GLITTERS" ARTICLE Glitters on hold No start date for Carey's Star remake TORONTO - Mariah Carey's All That Glitters might be stalled -- again. So far, there isn't a firm start date for the production, which is skedded to shoot here. Carey and company have been preparing Glitters for more than two years, developing it as A Star Is Born rehash for her major motion picture debut. Set in the early '80s, the film has Carey playing a mixed-race club singer who is guided to stardom by a famous club DJ. Carey, of course, was star-promoted by her ex-husband and Sony big shot Tommy Mottola, who was never a DJ but not crazy about all that is implied in Glitters. Carey continues to deny that the movie parallels her life or that Mottola has a problem with the feature. In the picture, see, her mother's black and her father's white. For real, her father is black and her mother is white ... Two more films are headed this way. One is a comedy-drama called Bob's Garage. And there is a Brad Renfro star vehicle, Christmas With J.D. SOFIA VERGARA VS MARIAH CAREY Luis Miguel came to Miami without Mariah, and stayed at his own private boat, to keep away from the press and papparatzi. The staff from "El Gordo Y La Flaca" somehow managed to place a hidden camera around the area the boat was parked. After one or two days a black limo pulled up at 12am. But before the person inside came out, one of Luis Miguel's bodyguards looked around to "make sure" no one was watching. Of course he did not know that nearby the lens of "El Gordo Y La Flaca" were recording every move they made. Finally, about 5 minutes later, the bodyguard opened the door, and to everyone's surprise Sofia Vergara came out, dressed all in black and fixing her hair before she got on the small boat that would take her to meet Luis Miguel. Luis Miguel and Sofia went out before, and now are known to be very good "friends." Luis Miguel spent his birthday alone however, eventhough everyone expected Mariah to arrive that day. Then when she had to do her concert in Miami, she came to stay with him, and "El Gordo Y La Flaca" again got exclusive images of her tanning at his private boat, with two of her close friends, and some images of Luismi and the Diva together as well. ________________________ MY OPINION: Mariah and Luis are very much in love and this other gal is just a friend. You can have a friend that's a woman and your a man......right??? Any how......
