Starting in 1999, Mariah made her acting debut in the film The Bachelor. This debut was not a starring role, but it opened up a new road for Mariah. In April of 200, Mariah was hospitalized for food poisoning and dehydration. Some of her tour dates were canceled or rescheduled. Fortunatly but not surprisingly, Ms. Carey was able to recover.
Due to overworking herself, Mariah suffered from an emotional and physical breakdown in the summer of 2001. The stress came from working on the movie and sountrack, lack of sleep, anxiety, and many problems with her former record label, Mariah's first public appearance after her breakdown was her performance in United We Stand; A Tribute to Heroes. In my opinion, this performance gave her strength after her breakdown. On September 21, 2001, Glitter came out in theaters. Along with starring in the movie, Mariah co-produced and co-wrote it.
