by Michael Axelsson. Crocodilians have amazingly efficient hearts,
capable of shunting blood away from their lungs when submerged. Dr.

CONSERVATION:
American Zoo & Aquarium Association (AZA)
The AZA Crocodilian
Advisory Group information is specifically geared toward captive
breeding programs and goes a long way toward helping maintain genetic

also part of the AZA, and addresses critically endangered crocodilians,
including the
Chinese
alligator and
Cuban

AG Krokodile
The crocodile specialists of the German DGHT (the world's largest

Proyecto Yacaré
Proyecto Yacaré is a very successful conservation program for broad-snouted
caimans based upon realising their economic potential as an incentive to
conserve both animals and habitat. The English summary is required
reading if you don't believe sustainable use can benefit wildlife.
Perhaps the most interesting development is an eco-tourism program,
where visitors can experience perhaps the ultimate vacation - first-hand
participation in a conservation program, hatching out baby caimans,
visiting these amazing creatures in their natural habitat, and directly
assisting their conservation. Highly recommended.
