This is my bike after trying to sand and paint it. I have always been known for trying to rush things and this was no difference. I am going to sand it right this time and use 1500 grit sand paper. The center side panel above the foot pegs has 1500 grit and no paint. It looks smoother and has just as good of a finish without paint. This was my attempt to save $700.00 to buy the original plastic. Close examination still shows the crack in the fairing. I may end up buying my ZX9R before I make the investiment in the new plastic. Still runs great and only 4,500 miles. That didn't take too long, did it Andy?

The other day I took a quick 200 mile trip to St. John's. I didn't take any photos while I was there because I was trying to beat a thunderstorm. This was taken about half way between Holbrook and St. John's on US 180.

I sold the Ninja to my wife's nephew Stephen, who just got his motorcycle permit. He did the right thing by starting out slow and not pushing himself. We took a Saturday ride down to Payson to ride the canyon switch-backs on the rim. Except for a few monsoon showers, the ride was great. Unfortunately, Stephen's older brother Daniel came to town, and he didn't have a clue on how to ride a motorcycle. Stephen let him ride it and he dumped it onto the ground. The fairing is broken on the right side, right turn signal broken, scratched right mirror, dented right pipe and other minor scratches. What a hard way to learn not to let people ride your bike. Well, here is the latest update. Shortly after Stephen let his brother drop the bike, he ended up droping it on the other side. Instead of fixing the bike and finishing paying for the bike, he decided that he really wants a truck. Well I got the bike back, replaced the turn signals and clutch lever. I gave it another oil change using sythetic oil this time and it is back on the market. I am taking a loss, but the first person with $2,000.00 gets it. It still has around 5,500 miles on it and runs great. Well it sold on December 27, 2000. Unfortunately, I found out six months later the bike had been wrecked on his way back home. That didn't last too long. He came up with his dad and was going to ride it back to Mesa. Sorry, I thought the bike would be good for the guy. I guess he was not ready. |
