The R1b SNP page has been updated.

www.geocities.com/mcewanjc

There are 29 new or updated entries.

1) I found another R1b1c6 (SRY2627+) individual and we now have 4

2) I have entered many individuals who have indicated they are M222+ tested and based on their STR profiles they all appear to be. It would be great if we could get full SNP test results from these people. At present the tally now stands at 47 M222+.

3) Ed O'Neill contacted me about a recent M222+ or R1b1c7 entry YS9J6 which he was surprised that my original phase three haplotype analysis had classified as R1bSTR19Irish. The reason was that it is ELEVEN mismatches out of 37 from the modal for the group. I double checked, it is also 12 mismatches away from the R1b modal and 16 from the R1a modal. If you check the entry out at

You will find it is close to the edge of the Irish cluster. The results were supplied to me personally so I know they are correct.

This is a real boundary case and it was correctly predicted based on the STR clustering and confirmed by the SNP. It also has implications for the likely age of the cluster. We have now got 118 M222 test results listed with 47 positive and all of the latter are within this cluster.

I personally think the Irish cluster is far older than its TMRCA suggests which is about 3400 years. I think it is a remnant of an earlier R1b group and I also feel that it was unlikely to have even been in Iberia in the last glacial period, because it would have left some more substantial trace behind. This is getting pretty radical compared with the existing scientific dogma, but I put it out there for comment.

As usual if you have new SNP results or notice errors please contact me.

Cheers

John McEwan
