R1b SNP update July 16th, 2006

Dear all

The R1b SNP table has been updated.

www.geocities.com/mcewanjc

19 entries have either been added or updated and we now have a total of 240 entries.

Interesting aspects

* Ethnoancestry has been reporting a number of results: including P66 a SNP originally observed in Italy and to date poorly defined. Currently it has provisional status on the ISOGG Y haplogroup tree. Ancestral values have been reported for all 42 individuals with test results including the subclades defined by S21, S28, SRY2627 and M222.

* We now have 6 R1b1c* individuals who have completed testing on all 10 R1b1c subclade SNPs and they have been labelled as such.

* There has been a report of a person (EZRDK) who is only A at P25 (most

P25+ are actually a mixture of A and C at this multicopy marker). This

is another step towards understanding the nature of this marker.

Perhaps the most important news is the announcement by Ethnoancestry of an FTDNA R1b SNP upgrade which tests for the extra SNPs on the ISOGG tree. Based on work to date around 40% of R1b will be derived for at least one of these extra SNPs.

As usual if you have additional or new results or notice any errors or corrections required please e-mail me.
