Information about R1b Y chromosome haplogroup
Entry for October 8, 2006

The R1b SNP table has been updated. It is taken a while, but it is now up to date. I have not yet cross-checked with other databases, nor updated other parts of the website.

1)       We now have 293 entries of which 178 are either derived within R1b1c or have been tested for the major SNPs in this group including S21 and/or S28

2)      There are 38 new entries or significant updates, there were many more but most were minor changes.

3)      We currently have 1 R1b1, 1 R1b1b, 1 R1b1c4, 11 R1b1c6, 54 R1b1c7, 32 R1b1c9 of which 3 are R1b1c9a and 3 are R1b1c9b, 12 R1b1c10 and 1 R2. I have not entered any R1a and I know that there is perhaps double the number of SNP tested R1b1c6 and R1b1c7 out there somewhere.

4)       We also have 4 P25-, M269+

5)       New points, we have a Clendenin tested as S21- and S28- and this group forms a strong subsection of R1bSTR10 cluster. This group has a reasonably high prevalence in R1b in Scotland and is the third most prevalent group 6% (14/241) after R1bSTR47Scots (21%), R1bSTR19Irish (9%) although surname variants have a great preponderance.

6)       We are slowly getting additional individuals from the lesser known parts of R1b haplotype spectrum testing for S21 and S28. To date clusters which are prevalent in Scotland or Ireland seem typically S21- and S28-.

Now as usual thanks to those that have provided data. If you have new R1b entries with SNP results or additional SNP data please send it to my e-mail address and I will include it in the next update. Similarly any errors that you note.
