The 100 Block of North 9th

By: M.C. (as told to webmaster)

Like many older homes, the big red house in the 100 block of N. 9th has been converted into apartments.

But often older homes carry a history with them. In this case, M.C., a college student, moved into the attic apartment in August of 2008. Sharing the apartment with two other girls, she found herself sleeping in a small space just off the living area. The week after she moved in, she began to experience something strange...a sense of being held while she slept. The feeling, 'wasn't loving, it was just holding me, like a hug.' This happened two or three times a week, always around 3 am. Finally, in October, she awoke to the sensation of something stroking her cheek. She said, 'Please go away!' The stroking stopped.

On another occasion, while half asleep, M.C. had a sense of talking to a male in her room. Aware of a figure sitting on the floor next to her bed, she thought it was probably a friend who had come by to visit. Drowsy, she asked, 'How long is he going to stay?

The figure answered, "Don't know.'

Curious but still sleepy, she asked, 'How long are you going to stay?'

This time he answered, 'Probably to the end of next semester.'

M.C. woke up fully, but there was no one in her room.

When asked to describe her phantom cuddler, M.C. states it's definitely a male, wearing bulky clothes and heavy workboots, who is tall (his feet on the bed go down further thans hers.) She estimates his height at about six foot three. She can feel a weight as he lays down on or gets up from the bed, and feels his breath and 'scruffy cheek' on the side of her face. Strangely, he smells of burned rubber.

M.C. reports again that the presence doesn't seem to be making sexual advances, he's just holding her as though trying to offer comfort.

Neither of her roommates has had a similiar experience.
