300 Block of Orr Street

Orr Street, located on the north side of town, is one of the oldest streets in Miles City. At the extreme western end, the street turns into a gravel road that passes the KOA campground and turns onto the dike. Just before this point, at the end of the 300 block is an almost obsolete railroad track, generally used only to temporarily store railroad cars.

However, in the spring of 2008, this railroad track was the scene of an unusual sighting.

K. a photographer, lives near the area. She often takes pictures at different times of day, experimenting with light and shadow. One evening, quite late, she was outside taking pictures. 'I suddenly felt like I had to snap one,' she says, 'even though I didn't see anything unusual.' To her surprise, when the picture was downloaded from her digital camera, a strange shape appeared to be moving down the railroad track.

'I think it looks like a little girl, dancing,' K. said. The flash from the camera is clearly highlighting the leaves of a nearby tree. There are no streetlights close by that could be causing a reflection.

So what is it?

'I've been taking photographs for a long time, but I have no idea,' K. says.

Here is the picture, slightly darker than the original. The 'Dancing Girl' on the Orr Street railroad tracks.

The same picture lightened on the computer to show more details. The same picture with detail highlighted.

A closeup of the figure. A close up.
