This story is about both the supernatural and family love.
The house that was home to the B. family probably had a history of its own, since it was built
in the late 1890's. But once the B. family moved in during the 1950's, it was a home of growing children and
holidays, and eventually, grandchildren. Time passed, as time does, and in January of 2002, the father
of the family passed away.
Soon after, his wife would hear the screen door slam, but no one
was there. A granddaughter, only five months old, often watched, giggling, as though something invisible
were crossing the room.
Deciding she couldn't live in the house alone, the mother of the family went to Billings to stay with her daughter P., while
a granddaughter and her husband stayed in the house. They had many strange experiences.
On one occasion, a friend was staying over, sleeping on the couch. In the night, she suddenly
woke up and sat upright. She saw a white shape move past her and into the bedroom. Thinking it was
her hosts, she laid back down and went to sleep. It wasn't until the next day when she asked why her
hosts had been walking around in the night, that she found they hadn't been. She never slept over again.
Two weeks after this incident, the granddaughter of the family and her husband were in the
bedroom. Suddenly it got very hot, even though the air conditioner was running at full blast. Something
made them both look around, and they saw a white shape standing in the doorway. They refused to stay
in the house at night after that.
Shortly after, T. (son of the man who had passed away) was in the house, looking for a fishing pole. He found the reel,
but couldn't find the rest of the gear. Thinking of the experiences others had had in the house,
he decided that perhaps the presence was his father. Sitting on the bed, he talked to the presence,
explaining that the family's mother was now in Billings, and ending with, "If that's you, put the
flyrod where I can find it." Coming back to search again the next day, he found the flyrod, standing
behind a door in a place he had searched many times.
The house was soon sold, and was gutted during renovation. Despite the fact the B. family had moved
everything out; pots, pans and even the marriage license of the deceased man and his wife were found.
Also discovered were three spots were electricity had arced behind the walls. It was a miracle a fire didn't start.
Today, the B. family firmly believes their father stayed in the house to keep an eye on things, and perhaps
warn of danger from outdated wiring. The pots, pans and marriage license were just little reminders from him
that his family had played a part in the history of the house on Washington Street.
