The Running Man

By: B. as told to the Webmaster

In this experience, B. and several friends were parked in the area off the dike, between the KOA campground and the state road department (past where Orr Street turns into a dirt road.) They were standing by their vehicles in an open area behind a small grove of trees, enjoying a cool evening in early October. There were a few clouds, but the sky was bright with stars. The group was talking, when B. suddenly felt a tickle on the back of his neck, and instinctively looked behind himself.

A few hundred feet away, he suddenly saw a figure running down the incline from the railroad tracks. The figure was nearly transparent, shaded in whites and grays. It was a man. The man wasn't wearing a hat or carrying anything, and was quite tall and thin. He wasn't a teenager, but an adult somewhere between his 20's and 40's.

As he ran, the man looked right into B. eyes, even turning his head to keep B. in his sight. B. felt cold. Those eyes 'pierced right through me,' B. says. The man kept running as quickly as possible. 'It was running for its life.' Too stunned to say anything, B. watched as the man continued to run until he was obscured by the small grove of trees. Even when he was out of sight, B. sensed the man was continuing to run, then the sensation faded. B. walked around the trees, but the man was gone. The others with B. didn't see anything unusual.

B. found himself unsettled by the experience. 'The way he was running, there was fear.' The man also seemed aware of B. and surprised that he was present. 'I was afraid it might come towards me, but it didn't.' Because of the location near the railroad tracks, 'I kept thinking it was someone from when the railroad was built.'

B. reports that this is the only time he has ever seen an apparition.
