ADAM McKEE Jr (1773-1820)

ADAM McKEE Jr. was born in 1773 to ADAM and JEAN McKEE.  Adam Jr's life was relatively brief -- he died February 19, 1820 at just 47 years of age  He stayed behind when MICHAEL and WILLIAM SETH set off for the Missouri frontier during the second decade of the 19th century, so we will "tell all we know" about him and his descendents in this segment. First however we will continue this summarization of his siblings

We cannot be certain just where ADAM JR was born although we know that by the time he was a year old, his parents had settled in the part of South Carolina's "District 96" which became Abbeville County and he spent the rest of his life there.

ADAM McKEE Jr. married ELENOR BRECKENRIDGE (also spelled BRACKENRIDGE), probably between 1795-1805. (He was listed in his father's household in the 1800 census but an "extra" female in the household could have been his wife).  ELENOR's brother ROBERT BRECKENRIDGE (BRACKENRIDGE) lived nearby and ADAM JACKSON McKEE was mentioned in ROBERT's will when he died.  ELENOR and ROBERT may have been children of JAMES BRECKENRIDGE who is listed not too far from them on the 1800 census.

ADAM Jr. and ELENOR had at least four children -- two boys and two girls.  ADAM died in 1819 or 1820 (his estate was administered 4 Sep 1820 but the 1820 census showed ELENOR heading the household so he probably died before that enumeration).  The estate was administered by JOHN McKEE (his brother), ELENOR McKEE (the widow) and ISAAC COWAN.  The inventory was made 19 Sep 1820 by ELI BOWIE, ROBERT BRECKENRIDGE (ELENOR's brother) and MICHAEL McKEE (MICHAEL probably returned with his brother JOHN).  The sale took place the day after the inventory and "byers" included both JOHN and MICHAEL.

ADAM Jr. is buried in the family cemetery on Long Cane Creek.  A memorial stone (now broken and fallen) was erected in the northeast corner inscribed:

A note pasted from PAF to integrate into narrative::

.Adam Jr's estate admin.1820 by Jn.McKEE, Isaac COWAN & widow. On 1820CElenor listed with 2 sons & 2 dtrs.  Adam Jackson McKEE ment.in will [1846]of Elenor's bro.Robert BRACKENRIDGE.  Betty HARMON's research indicatedAdam J. bn.1817; also see IGI, 1810C, 1820C.

..Adam & Elenor's mar. cd.be <1800 if she was "extra" fem.in 1800C for Adam

Sr. but more likely mar. betw.1800-05. Rbt.& James BRACKENRIDGE nearby.

..The 1810C shows one son and three daughters under age 10; Eleanor's 1820C shows two daughters 1804/10, one daughter 1810/20 and two sons born 1810/20.  We can identify one son & one daughter; another daughter MIGHT be Eleanor McKee 10/11/1808-1848 buried in Greenville Church Cemetery or this could be the wife of their unidentified son or....??
