Excerpts From Laurens County History Book

 

Harmony United Methodist Church

 

Located on Hwy. 25 between Greenville and Greenwood in Ware Shoals, SC

 

                        Organized as a branch of Mt. Bethel Methodist Church.  Original deed dated October 7, 1839.

 

                            Original church was a very small frame with an unpainted structure.  It had a door in each end and a small place set aside for slaves.

 

                          As to the charter members, we have been able to get the names of a very few, which are William                            Smith Puckett, and wife, Delilah Knight, married 1814, first members to join Harmony Church;                     Cason Bradford Puckett, married February 2, 1845, Margaret Mahala Clardy, at Harmony                             Church.....Catherine Delilah Puckett married William A. Reeves on January 19, 1865.  They                                 were devout members of this Church.  Aunt Kate Puckett, as she was known, is remembered as an old timey shouting Methodist

 

Church remodeled in 1908.

 

New church opened on October 5, 1952.
