MICHAEL McKEE (1769/70 - 4/23/1845)

Michael was the oldest son.  He went to Missouri ca.1816/17 and we will pick up more details about his line in the Missouri segment

MICHAEL's first marriage undoubtedly occurred in Abbeville District.  It could have been as early as 1790 and almost certainly was by 1795 (the year prior to the birth of WILLIAM).  No marriage records for this jurisdiction during that period can be found but from the family bible entries (presumably copied by Andrew Logan McKEE from a bible from the Adam Harvey McKEE line) we now know the name of his first wife.

MARGRIT was between 26-45 years of age in 1800 and she and Michael had four young children.  On the 1810 enumeration, she was still in the age 26-45 age category, so we can conclude she was born between 1765-1774.  Her ten known children were born ca.1796-1812 which would tend to place her at the later part of that range (born 1770-74) unless Adam Harvey was born quite late in normal child-bearing years. Also it is likely she was younger or the same age as her husband rather than being older..   No 1820 census is available for the family and she died 17 February 1828, so that is as close as we can "pin down" her birth year.  There is no information concerning her maiden name or where she was born/raised.

Michael's second marriage, to Lucinda nee WHITNEY, the widow of John GAMBLE, Jr, occurred in Missouri and is discussed at greater length there.

As reflected by the bible death entries, MICHAEL McKEE died 23 April 1845.  His place of death undoubtedly was Jefferson County, MO.

Michael's oldest son remained in Abbeville County when his father & Uncle William Seth went to Missouri.  Quite likely this was partly because William's wife was pregnant with their first child.  Later in this segment we will continue with much more about William and his descendents..
