LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Lifetime has shut down "The Division," canceling the drama series after four seasons.
The series, which starred Nancy McKeon and Bonnie Bedelia as detectives in the San Francisco Police Dept., averaged 2 million total viewers in its fourth season, down from an average of 2.5 million in the previous season, according to Nielsen Media Research.
"... (W)e felt that the show had, as all television programs eventually do, run its course, and it was time to offer our viewers another option," said a Lifetime spokesman.
He added that several pilots are in development at the network but it was too early to say what might fill the Sunday-night slot occupied by "The Division."
In other Lifetime news, the cable network has ordered five more episodes of the recently retooled "Missing" in addition to its current 13-episode order.
"Missing," in its second season, centers on an FBI (news - web sites) agent (Caterina Scorsone) who uses her telepathic abilities to help her locate missing persons. The mystery drama series was retooled ahead of its second-season bow, getting a new name (it was previously titled "1-800-Missing") and an almost entirely new cast. Scorsone's original co-star, Gloria Reuben, exited after the first season. Vivica A. Fox, Mark Consuelos and Justin Louis joined the cast.
"Missing" has averaged 2.2 million total viewers since its second-season premiere July 10.
Lisa Vidal and Nancy McKeon, right, who play police inspectors on Lifetime's series "The Division," causing A Pea in the Pod in Beverly Hills. Vidal, who had a baby girl in July, gave mom-to-be McKeon fashion tips, advising her to purchase the hottest Hollywood maternity mode-- Seven for All Mankind maternity jeans.
Lifetime: What's the best gift you have ever received?
McKeon: It's a toss-up between my husband and my child to come. I'm due in March. We're going to wait to find out the sex of the baby. With the first child you need to go with the surprise route--at least we decided to.
Nancy McKeon does a book-read on "Sweet Dreams," by Faye Kellerman.
"While on routine patrol, LAPD Officer Cindy Decker rescues a newborn abandoned in an alley Dumpster. But she can't call it a night until she sees the infant safe in a hospital, cared for by a professional - in this case a male nurse with intense eyes and lots of charm." "Now the hunt is on for the mother, more than likely a scared and desperate girl in need of medical attention. Armed with advice from her overworked father, Detective Peter Decker, Cindy searches through the mean streets of her inner-city Hollywood district, following a trail filled with helpless people and violent gangs who prey on the innocent." With each new lead, the twisted journey gets darker, battering Cindy's complex relationships and endangering her very life. When Decker and Decker join forces, can this edgy duo put personal issues aside to catch a vicious culprit before he strikes again?"
