The majority of my stay was spent in Vancouver, where Heather's family are currently situated. A great city and it's never too difficult to lay your hands on a beer or a coffee, as I was happy to discover.

| At home with the Ballacheys: from left to right, we have Peter, Susan and Catherine. There was another version of this photograph in which I was making a mildly obscene gesture, you'll be surprised to know. | ![]() |

| On my last day in Canada, it actually snowed which is apparently something of a rarity in Vancouver. Of course, Canadians are used to the snow as well, but Heather suffers from vertigo every time she's in a car park, for some reason. | ![]() |
| And here I am, cleaning the snow off Heather's car before we set off for the airport. | ![]() |
| By a curious coincidence, I ran into Colin at Vancouver airport. Colin is also a Nova teacher and had been up since 2 a.m. Vancouver time, to catch his flight from... I forgot. Wherever. Otsukare! | ![]() |
