HENRY
I
remember him well, in the old ironmonger's shop on Eastthorpe,
which he may have inherited from his father who was a master
plumber. The building is no longer there, but bachelor Henry
used to live alone on the premises. I spent many happy times
there - rocking in his big rocking chair, eating his humbugs
and just listening to the ticking of the big grandfather clock.
He was a kindly man with strikingly blue eyes which you can
almost see in the photograph above.

And here he is...white haired by now...hard
at work in the shop on Eastthorpe,mending a kettle...many hours
by only oil lamp, he never had electricity!
