2ND ANNUAL MARINE CORPS
SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION'S Salut! To The Corps WINE TASTING - November
1
The 2nd Annual Marine Corps Scholarship
Foundations Salut! To the Corps Wine Tasting is planned
for Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 1 Houston Center in downtown
Houston.
Over 300 people attended the 2008 inaugural MCSFs Salut!
To the Corps Wine Tasting event. Net proceeds raised from the
evening were $165,000 which helped provide needs-based scholarships
to the sons and daughters of Marines in the greater Houston area.
This years event will feature distinctive wines and hors-doeuvres
will be provided by some of Houstons finest restaurants.
In addition, there will be a Marine Color Guard, live music and
silent and live auctions. Guests will include scholarship recipients
and their families as well as Margaret B. Davis, President/CEO
of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
Since 1962, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has answered
a critical call to help Marine families, providing over $39 million
in academic needs-based scholarships to children of Marines and
Navy Corpsmen serving with Marines. The Foundation annually awards
over $3.5 million to 1,300 students across the nation.
Today, the average total family income of the scholarship recipients
is only $43,000. The mounting toll of the Global War on Terror,
the continuing rising costs of education and the maturation of
a new generation of Marines illustrate the urgent need to provide
life altering opportunities for these children.
It is extremely gratifying to help the children of warriors
who so courageously defend and sacrifice greatly for our country,
said event co-chairman Steve Hamblin. It is our investment
in the education of the children of Marines that help create
a brighter future for all.
Join Houstonians for a fabulous evening of fine wines, fine food
and wonderful fellowship in support of MCSFs mission of
Honoring Marines by Educating Their Children. The 2nd Annual
Salut! To the Corps Wine Tasting event is looking for support
from patriotic Houston businesses and individuals through sponsorships
and as volunteers.
To learn more about the MCSF, including sponsorship eligibility,
testimonials from recipients or how to donate, visit www.mcsf.org.

Pflugerville's
Fallen Warrior Memorial
In November 2004, the citizens of Pflugerville
honored a local Marine who gave his life in service to his country.
After his funeral, grateful citizens wondered if Pflugerville
had lost others in defense of freedom, but there was no public
record of local soldiers lost in combat. A group of citizens
met in January 2005 to plan a way to memorialize their sacrifices.
Oral histories were researched, and a memorial was designed based
upon this research. Thus, the Pflugerville Fallen Warrior Memorial
was created. To see how you can help. visit their website by

Those who have approved convalescent leave may be given a free
