The Terrain

Grassy open; mixed, cypress, eucalyptus forests; some patches of dense vegetation. I did not see any poison oak when I jogged the course. Man-made features include paved and unpaved trails, picnic tables, restrooms, lakes, courts, and various buildings. Elevation ranges from 200 feet to 525 feet. The Photos speak for themselves.

The Map

The map is a 6 color, unmodified USGS Topo Quad, blown up to 1:10000 from 1:24000, with 25 foot contours. It is reasonably accurate. Paved roads and larger buildings and man-made structures are mapped. Large areas of forest, runnable or not, are shaded light green. Don't confuse the dashed lines with trails - these denote the park boundary. Trails - paved and dirt - are not mapped.

The golf course on the south part of the map is fenced off and marked on the map as out of bounds. I have added some fences to the map that could get in your way.

The Course

9 controls, 4.7km, 180m of climb. Only mapped features are used as control sites. Controls are streamered.

Due the lack of rich detail on the map and optimal route selections that are off trail I am rating the course as Orange level. Advanced level navigation skills would come in handy.

Hazards

The grass is tall and replete with foxtails. If you plan to take the direct route choices pants and shoes with traction are advised. There are a few road crossings with sparse traffic traveling up to 35MPH - be careful.
