Originally a playgroupnd play thing after spending all of its life working in the North Island. Was restored from 1989 - 1996. Has a new internat boiler under the original boiler shell.

McLaren 1817

This is an unusual creature, well in NZ it is any way. There is a similar machine in england, and they have named theirs a "Puddock" Welsh for Frog, as this is the motion it makes as it leaps aroung the rally field.

This particular model is a 4HP Compound. During its life it was converted to a diesel, but in preservation it was reverted back to steam. An addition has been the rubber tyres and the original roof canopy. Notice also the headlights on the front and the rear view mirror.

McLarens 917 & 919 are convertable rollers. Number 197 was shipped  from Fielding in the North Island fot the rally, thanks to Pacifica Shipping.



McLarens in the Sun

Here we see 2 McLarens lapping up the warn Spring sunshine at the rally. Little did they know that the following day it would rain heavily, and bring sleet to the rally ground, making some parts of it awash with mud.




Heron Steam Museum

These two machines are maintained and operated by well know traction engine restorer Frank heron, of the Herons Steam Museum, Rangiora.
