Yes, you can drive while talking on the phone
With the advent of cellular phones, many people are holding phone conversations practically everywhere. For those of us who are constantly on the go, these small cordless devices have made it possible to hold a conversation while shopping, working, eating and yes, even driving.
Being able to talk on the phone while driving has made going from point A to point B more productive and entertaining. People use these phones to do business on their way to work, or to plan meals while en route home. Casual conversation is also likely to take place, which may ease the frustration of traffic.
Is cellular phone use harmless, or are there safety risks that should be considered when talking on the phone while driving? Some car accidents are said to be caused by cell phone usage due to reckless driving caused by a lack of concentration. However, is this really due to cell phone usage, or does the responsibility fall on the driver?
I believe this new technology is not the blame, instead I feel that drivers should be more cautious. Although people may be talking on their phones and not paying attention to the activities on the road, the problem is not the phone. The important thing is that these people are not paying attention. So who is to say that a phone is the only thing that prevents one from concentrating?
People who become engaged in conversation with passengers in the car are at the same risk of having as accident as those speaking into a receiver. Furthermore, this same lack of concentration can also result from being enthralled with the latest popular song on the radio.
The driving force of the cell phone is convenience. When they are being used while driving the medium isn’t really to blame. People should put their focus on the messenger, or in this case, the driver, instead.
