Service Projects
Each year, our chapter performs one or more service projects to help our community.
- In the Fall of 2001, we raised money for the families of 9/11.
- In the Fall of 2002, we sold cookbooks with over 200 recipes contributed by our members. The money raised was used to build a fence around a local park playground the following summer. Update as of 9/30/03: The fence was put up around the park at the end of August and it looks great! Update as of 5/23/04: We had a Fence Dedication Ceremony on May 8. The Hanover Parks and Recreation Department was on hand to help us out and provide face painting. We also had crafts -- cookie decorating, paper kites, and bird feeders -- and activities -- car races, ball toss, and water balloon toss.
- In 2003, we collected donations at each chapter meeting for various local charities.
- In 2004, we be put together "goodie bags" for children in a local domestic violence shelter. Thanks to Walmart, Target, My Calendar Maker, and our members, we were able to donate the following items:
- 25 packs of crayons
- 10 reader books
- 5 sets of flashcards
- 20 misc. books
- 25 sm. stuffed animals
- 15 lg. stuffed animals
- 30 very sm. stuffed animals
- 10 fun pads
- 10 phonics books
- 4 packs of sidwalk chalk
- 25 coloring books
- 30 toothbrushes
- 25 erasers
- 25 reams of paper
- 20 misc toys
- 25 containers of playdoh
- misc clothes
- For the 2004-2005 year, the following projects will be done: 1. HOLIDAY WISHES PROGRAM - CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OF RICHMOND Help us spread a little Christmas cheer to some well deserved children. 2. WISHING WELL PROJECT - PENNIES FOR HEALTHY KIDS - CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OF RICHMOND - START SAVING THOSE PENNIES AND BRING THEM TO THE MEETING EVERY MONTH. Our goal is $300.00 that is less than 100 pennies per mom per meeting! This project will run from November to June. 3. RESOURCE MOTHERS PROGRAM - Details to follow in January.
