Mary Ann is the second wife. There was supposed to be a divorce, which has not been proven. He was 53 when Mary Emily was born. When Mary Lindsey (wife) died the girls went to a home for Civil War Orphans in Chester, PA.
First wife may have been Martha (?). A woman by the name of Martha Mardis applied for Richard Westley Mardis' Civil War Benefits around the time of his death. Have sent for documents from the War Dept. to varify this information.
