CHARLTON HESTON STYLE APOCOLYPSE
When I was a kid, I was immersed in science fiction lore. My dad had an endless collection of sci-fi novels that all had wonderfully intricate drawings depicting heroes stuck in some cliff hanger type situation amongst a background of mutated landscape that I assumed was the future of earth. He would read us some of the books before bed, never finishing them, in hopes that we would pick them up and read them ourselves. There were always sci-fi movies on the TV during the weekends, most of them dealt with a wasted earth being traveled by regular joes turned hero by some stroke of luck that lead to their own survival. Movies like Damnation Alley, Night of the Comet, A Boy and his Dog, Def-Con 4 and of course a slew of '60s and '70s era films starring Charlton Heston as the last man on earth, fighting for the american way! Why was he such a good candidate for the last man standing? Maybe cuz he's the guy with all the guns. At any rate, this song is a simple tribute to the genre of film that I love and the man that seemed to epitomize the kind of character it took to convey, with gusto, the idea that mankind is headed for ruin unless we stop fuckin' about and get with the program.
