Course Number: CS99X/CS972
This course covers topics including; networking, network terminology and protocols, network standards, LAN, WAN, the layers of the OSI reference model, cabling, cabling tools. In addition, this course provides students with their first exposure to Cisco routers, router programming, and routing protocols. Students will be introduced to router startup and setup configuration, the Cisco Internetworking Operating System (IOS), routing protocols, and network management issues. The course utilizes text-base study material, simulation lab exercises, and demonstrations to reinforce network concepts and theories. This course is the first course (equivalence to Cisco's Semester I & II) in a series of two courses preparing students to pursue the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
At Course Completion
Upon completion of this course students: will have acquired an understanding of networking terminology; be able to distinquish between different networking hardware and their network functions; will have gained an understanding of TCP/IP and IP addressing; developed an understanding of network topology and design; will have acheived exposure to various concepts, such as, media installation, electricity and electronics; will have acquired an initial exposure to wide area networking concepts and terminology; will have gained an understanding of router basics, router startup and configuration commands, and router concepts.
