January, 2009 --  Happy New Year!!!
Home
The theme for January is "PENGUINS!"

We will be reading aloud the book Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater.  This is an Accelerated Reader book worth three points, and everyone will be able to test on this to add to their AR goals.
The theme of penguins will carry over throughout our curriculum as we do activities through which the students will:
1.  learn to distinguish different types of penguins
2. identify penguin behavior
3.  find out where they live
4. research how they move and how they get along.

In math, we will have been working on telling time.  We will also be working on understanding the calendar (days and dates) and exploring elapsed time.
What makes penguins unique?
During the months of January and February, we will have 6 weeks of special nutrition classes every Thursday presented by Carol Pitts of the Macon County Extension Service.  Using games and real food products, Ms. Pitts will be teaching the students about the Food Pyramid and healthy choices for snacks.
