Fourth of July Parade
We have not received any
information about the July 4th parade as yet. It is usually held on the 4th
of July with the parade stepping off at Sidney
Fenn Elementary School in Medina.
Step off is usually at 6:00 pm. We usually meet at 5:30 pm. More information will be sent out as we
get more definite information.
Veteran’s Home
Dodie Jewett
has booked an outing for our group on Saturday, June 24th at the
Veteran’s Home in Sandusky. We need to arrive by 10:00 am. There is a walking tour that lasts about
an hour and a half (Wheelchairs will be available for those unable to walk
that long). Lunch will also be
available. The cost is $3.50 per
person. Please call Dodie to let her know that you are interested. We need to know how many are coming so
that they can plan for us. Also, as
the time gets closer and we know how many are interested, we can look at
carpooling to Sandusky.
Membership Meeting
Our next membership meeting will be
on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Baker’s Square in Medina. We hope you can attend. The food is great and the company is
exceptional!

There are a lot of events in the upcoming months. Please read your newsletter carefully and
note the dates and times of the activities planned for our group. We hope to see more members participate,
whether it be in the parades or meetings,
etc. If you would like to attend any
of the events and are unable because of transportation, please contact one
of the officers and they will arrange transportation for you.
Memorial Day Parade
The Memorial Day parade will be on
May 29th at 10:00am
Please meet on the square across the street from the courthouse at
9:30 am. Wear your shirt with MCWM
logo, uniform, or anything that indicates what branch of service that you were
or are a member of and comfortable shoes.
Also, prepare for the weather.
If it is chilly, bring a light jacket, umbrella if it looks like
rain and maybe a bottle of water if it is going to be hot. After the parade, there will be a
memorial service at the cemetery.
Please plan to attend. It is
our responsibility to honor and acknowledge the veterans that have served
before us. You should have received
your reminder cards about the parade by now. Please return the bottom half as soon as
possible so that we can have cars available for those that are unable to
walk in the parade. In the past we
have had convertibles available and plan to do the same this year.

TAPS
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lakes, from the hills, from the skies,
All is well, safely rest.
God is nigh.
Then good night, peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn shineth bright,
God is near, do not fear
Friend, good night.
Composed By Major General
Daniel Butterfield
Army of the Potomac, Civil War
This bugle call was written during the Peninsula Campaign of the Civil War
in the year 1862 after a battle near Richmond,
Virginia which saw a large
number of Union casualties. It is said that the
tune came to then Brigade Commander Colonel Daniel Butterfield while
reflecting sadly on the losses. According to the story, Butterfield, unable
to write music, hummed it to his aide who wrote it down in musical
notation. It was performed that evening by his bugler, Oliver W. Norton in
honor of fallen comrades. In 1874, it became officially recognized by the
U.S. Army as an alternative to "Lights Out" and since has been
used not only a signal that day was done, but also as means of saying
good-bye to a fallen comrade,
usually accompanied by the drumbeat, Muffled Ruffles. It is customarily played
at military funerals across the land.
