MEDINA COUNTY
WOMEN OF THE MILITARY

JANUARY 2004

Happy New Year to All!
This past year has been a very busy year for our group. We participated in
the Memorial Day Parade, Fourth of July Parade, Fall Foliage Tour, Summer Camaraderie
Picnic, and our Veteran's Day Luncheon Celebration.
I appreciate the efforts of everyone in making each of these events successful.
We had a lot of fun!

This next year should promise to be full of fun and adventure, too.
As outgoing president, I would like to thank Darleen for her help with the
newsletters and organizational support. Kathy for her accurate recordings
of our adventures. Letha for her efforts in keeping our finances in line.
Sharon Kiesel for her support and guidance. Sharon Nicholson for her recording efforts
of our chapters activities and her time in putting together volume 2 of "the book."
Doris Ramey for hosting our meetings at her church and making them a warm event.
Viola for organizing our social activites and
to all of you for contributing your time and making this such a fun group.
I wish all of your a healthy, safe, happy new year---Jennifer.

Election Ballot
Please find the 2004 ballot for elections enclosed. Please remit asap!!

Dues
Please send your dues now in the amount of $10 to the address at the top of this page

Newsletter
Due to increasing mailing costs, the members voted at the last meeting to send out one
"informational" newsletter at the beginning of the year to all on our mailing list. Those members
who have paid dues will receive additional updates throughout the year. We hope
this will keep all members informed of our activites, yet keep costs for mailings at a minimum.

Upcoming Events
The March Luncheon Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 20th,
11:45 a.m. at the Golden Corral in Medina behind Home Depot.
After successful reconnaissance by Jennifer and Dodie,
the food has been deemed yummy and plentiful (official military lingo.)
They do offer a "senior discount" to those who qualify.
Hope to see everyone there!

Please see the schedule below. Cut it out and stick it on the fridge or in your calendar.
As scheduling is determined, fill in the blanks so you don't miss out on the fun!

MEDINA COUNTY WOMEN OF THE MILITARY

SEPTEMBER 2004

Message from the President:

The activities of summer life have kept us busy and before we realize it, it is time for a busy fall of MCWM activities. We had a great turnout at the last meeting. It seems everyone enjoyed gathering at the Golden Corral so we are planning on having more meetings there. We missed those of you who were unable to attend.

The fall foliage tour is coming up soon and is a great time to meet folks and to get out and enjoy the cooler weather. Volunteers are needed this weekend to meet and greet.

The Veteran's Day luncheon is scheduled for November 14th. The reservation form is included in this newsletter. We look forward to seeing you and your family there.

Please keep in mind upcoming election of officers in December. Please let Sharon Kiesel or myself know if you are interested in a position. This is your organization and your help and support is needed for success. I hope to see you at the upcoming meeting.

If you need help finishing up your interview, do not despair. There are members who will gladly help you with this. We are not all writers and this task can be intimidating. Our group has really grown since its birth just a few years ago. This is very exciting.

Please keep spreading the word. God bless---Darlene

Our next meeting will be held at the Golden Corral in Medina on October 2, 2004 at 11:30. We had a great turn-out at the last meeting and hope even more people attend this time. Due to scheduling conflicts, the meeting had to be moved to October instead of September. Hope this is convenient for everyone. When you arrive, do not go through the line at the register. Go directly to the private room. We will have to pay on one check, so bring the exact amount in cash. Adults - $10.65, Senior Citizens - $10.15. This includes drink, gratuity, and tax. Make check out ot MCWM.

The Fall Foliage Tour is scheduled for October 9th and 10th. Doris Ramey has agreed to make the arrangements for our participation on the tour. This is a great way to meet fellow veterans and to get our name out there and hopefully find new members. Please see Doris if you can help out. Thanks once again, Doris, for taking care of this for our group.

There is a reunion scheduled for the Army Reserve 2291st USAH on September 25, 2004 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Woodford Army Reserve Corp on Kelly Avenue in Akron bring finger food to share.

The Veteran's Day Luncheon will be held at the Medina County Country Club on November 14, 2004 at 12:30 pm. Please return your reservation and order for your meal. Hope we have a wonderful turnout this year. Hard to believe, but this will be the Fifth Anniversary of the Medina County Women of the Military! Directions: Follow Rt. 3 South to Rt. 162 West, turn Left, Country Club is about 1/5 miles down Rt. 162 on the left.

The calendar of events and contact numbers for the officers has been listed at the bottom of the newsletter for your convenience. Please cut the bottom off and post it on your refrigerator.

If you know anyone that served in the World War II effort, there is a registry to honor those individuals. Contact Sharon Nicholson for a registry form. If you access to a computer, check out the web site: http://www.wwiimemorial.com/.

Medina County Women of the Military, Volume II. We are still trying to get Volume II completed in time for the November meeting. Please return the edited copy of your interview as soon as possible! If you have lost your interview, call Sharon Nicholson for another copy. Also, please send a picture of yourself in uniform. An original picture will copy best, if you have one available. It will be returned to you as soon as possible. If you need help editing your interview, please call one of the officers. If you are in Volume One and would like your picture added in Volume Two, please send it to me as soon as possible. We would really like to present these books at the Veteran’s Day Luncheon. “I AM YOUR FLAG”
I am the silent sentinel of Freedom.
I am the emblem of the greatest sovereign nation on earth.
I am the inspiration for which American Patriots gave their lives and fortunes.
I have led your sons into battle from Valley Forge to the bloody swamps of Viet Nam..
I walk in silence with each of your Honored Dead,
to their final resting place beneath the silent White Crosses, row upon row.
I have flown through Peace and War, Strife and Prosperity, and amidst it all I have been respected.
My Red Stripes. . .symbolize the blood spilled in defense of this glorious nation.
My White Stripes . . . signify the burning tears shed by Americans who lost their sons.
My Blue Field. . .is indicative of God's heaven under which I fly.
My Stars . . . clustered together, unify 50 States as one, for God and Country.
"Old Glory" is my nickname, and proudly I wave on high.
Honor me, respect me, defend me with your lives and your fortunes.
Never let my enemies tear me down from my lofty position, lest I never return.
Keep alight the fires of patriotism, strive earnestly for the spirit of democracy.
Worship Eternal God and keep His commandments,
and I shall remain the bulwark of peace and freedom for all mankind.
I am your Flag.
Compliments of Colonel Daniel K. Cedusky, USAR, Retired
