President’s Column

The Board has been busy over the summer focusing the group’s efforts with the development of our Mission Statement which is two-fold:

·        Develop camaraderie and provide support among women with military service experience

·        Increase community awareness of the contributions made by military women

Responsibilities of the Board:

President:

·        Coordinates meetings

·        Coordinate patriotic activities (parades, dedications, funerals)

Vice President:

·        Member communications (newsletter, web site)

·        Legislative Updates

Secretary:

·        Board and Membership Minutes

·        Correspondence

Treasurer:

·        Collects Donations

·        Maintains financial records

Membership Recruiter: 

·        Contact potential new members

·        Follow up on member referrals

·        Maintain Member informational packet

·        Coordinate with secretary and treasurer on member information

·        Referral assistance with benefits

·        Informational Brochure

 

Public Relations:

·        Media Publicity

·        Presentations to organizations

·        Displays

Social Coordinator:

·        Social Events

·        Visiting Veterans

Historian:

·        Member Biographies

·        Chapter History/Scrapbook

The Membership Recruiter has been appointed by the Board, in the future this will be an elected position.  The Board would like to express our thanks to MaryBeth Yoho for accepting this position.  The Membership is currently at 21; if you know a veteran, please give their name to MaryBeth Yoho.  They are welcome!!

Donations

A big Thank You to Jane Cavey, Julia Hach, Joyce Ann McLaughlin for their generosity.  Lee Harper has paid for our P.O. Box – thanks so much!  A special Thank You to Colonel Harlan Jewett for the use of his computer, printer, paper and copier for the newsletter.  We greatly appreciate these donations!

 

Upcoming Events

September 10: Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery Dedication at 1500 hours. Lt. Col. Sharon Kiesel will be present.  Please call her if you are planning to attend.  Meet Lt. Col. Kiesel at the Reserved Seating Area.  The Cemetery is located at 10175 Rawiga Road in Rittman.  Take Rout 3 to Seville, turn east onto Main Street,  turn south onto Rawiga Road.  The Cemetery is on the left.

 

 

September 13: 50th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemorative Ceremony.

Who: Anyone who served in the military during the Korean War

What: Complimentary luncheon and reunion

When: Wednesday, September 13, 2000, 1130-1500 hours

Where: Brunswick VFW Post 9520 at 1439 South Carpenter Road

Bring your military souvenirs to share.  Please call the American Red Cross of Medina County, 330-723-4565 or toll free 877-441-4565. Seating limited to the first 100.

 

October 14: Saturday at 1500 hours is our next meeting at the Medina County Library Annex Room.  Join  us for the fun!

 

November 12:  Women Veteran’s Day Lunch from 1230-1430 hours at the Medina United Methodist Church.  The Church is located at 260 South Court Street in Medina.  This in one block south of the Medina Square.  Please bring your own table service and a dish to pass.  Your family members are welcome. We had a good turnout at the last luncheon.  Please join us for this annual outing.  Also, bring any memorabilia or scrapbooks, wear your uniform or come casual!

 

The Board looks forward to seeing you at these upcoming events.  Join us in the fun and camaraderie – that’s why we are here!!

For Your Information

 

Veteran License Plate: Order through the Medina License Bureau.  Cost is $10 per year for non-combat duty and free if you participated in a war.  All you need for non-combat is your DD214 and they will send you what you need for your uniform!

 

Uniform Support Center: The support center is located in Norfolk, VA and can be accessed from the Internet.  Fax a copy of your DD214 and they will send you what you need for your uniform!

 

Record Your DD214: A message from Nancy L. Abbott, Medina County Recorder – Be Safe!  In Ohio you can record your DD214 in your county recorder’s office.  There is no charge to record your DD Form 214.
