JUNE 2002

President’s Message:

Hello and Welcome to summer. It’s hard to believe 2002 is almost halfway over. Where does the time go? The group has had a very busy spring so far and summer is full of fun events as well. We have already participated in 2 parades; the Loyalty Day Parade on May 5th and the Memorial Day Parade on May 27th. We had a wonderful turnout for the Memorial Day Parade. Following the ceremonies at the cemetery, members presented flowers on Julia’s grave with a prayer led by Doris Ramey. Thank you to all the members that participated and a special thank you to Doris Ramey and Sharon Nicholson for all their efforts in organizing the parade events. By the time of publication of the newsletter, we will also have participated in the Blue Tip in Wadsworth on June 18th. The next parade will be July 4th in Medina. This has always been a great time, so please plan on participating. We have received a warm welcome wherever we march!!! I look forward to seeing everyone at the picnic on June 25th. The details are in this newsletter.

VA Moved:

The VA has opened its new office on Northland Drive. Stop in and see the new building!

Bylaws Approved:

The bylaws for the organization have been approved. We are still awaiting our official incorporation statement from the state. Apparently, there is a backlog with 6-9 months of waiting. We also need this document to apply for 501c19 status, so this is on hold until the paperwork catches up. (Sounds familiar to us military types.)

MCWM Vol. 1:

The book is still available for sale for $25.00 plus S&H if needed. Sonni Strong is the contact person if you want one. June 25th Camaraderie Catch Up Picnic: This is a women’s evening out! The Picnic is planned for 1800 hours (6:00 p.m.) at Buckeye Woods Park Pavilion. The park is located South of Medina on Route 162 between Routes 3 and 42. Take Route 3 South to Route 162 West, the Park is on your right (North) side of the Road. Also, you could take Route 42 South from Medina and turn East (left) on 162, the Park will then be on your left side. The Pavilion has electrical outlets. Please bring your own table service, plates, napkins, non-alcoholic beverage and a dish to pass as follows: those with a last name beginning with the letter L-Z bring a side dish such as salad, vegetable or dessert: those with last name beginning with the letters A-K bring a Main dish such as a chicken salad, casserole, or kielbasa, etc. and the next time we will switch! This should be a lot of fun and a great chance to sit an talk with fellow comrades, share stories, enjoy each other! We look forward to seeing you there. If you do have any questions, you can contact our Social Coordinator Viola Englert.

OCTOBER 2002

President’s Message :

Welcome to Fall. We have had a very busy year and more is yet to come! We had a great turnout at the meeting in September, we missed those of you who were unable to attend. Thanks to Doris Ramey for all her efforts and for providing us with such a nice spread! Many topics were discussed and we have some ideas that will need the membership to vote on. We will also need nominations/volunteers for the organization for the upcoming elections in December. If you have an interest in any of the positions, please contact myself or Sharon Kiesel, and let us know. We are a busy group and it helps to have enthusiastic volunteers! Our next big event is our Veteran’s Day Luncheon on November 17th. Please plan to attend as the Galaxy Restaurant has given us a lot of space for family and a great price for a wonderful lunch. More on this later in the newsletter. I look forward to seeing you in November. God Bless.-----Jennifer

September Meeting:

The September meeting had a good turnout. The members present agreed to change dues to $15 for this year and include our new lapel pin with each member’s renewal. Additional pins with our logo will be available for $5. As in the past, no member will be excluded if they are unable to pay the dues. We want all our members to know they are welcome.

The fall tour was a big success. Special thanks to Doris Ramey for all her efforts in organizing the event. Thanks to Martha Weyrick, Louella McIntosh, Dorothy Godfrey and Doris for their help in staffing the table. We have 5 potential new members from this event!

MCWM Volume 1 Book Sales :

If you are interested in obtaining a book, contact Sonni Strong for information. Cost is$25.00.

Membership List:

A discussion at the last meeting will bring up a vote at the November Luncheon as to whether the membership list of names, addresses and phone numbers should be available to all members of the group. The question arose because it is often difficult for one member to contact another member of the group and the members present at the September meeting beclieve the list would be helpful to all members. Originally, the list was only given to the officers of the organization for the purpose of confidentiality. The organization was fairly new at that time and many other organizations wanted our mailing list. If it is agreed upon to give the list o members, the understanding would be that the list is to remain in the possession of members only and that it is not to be copied or distributed to any other group or individual outside of MCWM.

Polo Shirt for Sale:

A MCWM Air Force Polo Shirt, size 2XL is available for $10. Brand new. Contact Jennifer Syme to purchase.
