Elections:
Ballots for the upcoming year have been included in the December newsletter. Please fill them out and return them to the P.O. address by December 31. The ballots will be counted by the board in early January. Elected officers will be notified by phone. Thanks to all of you that volunteered or accepted to run for an office! The first officers' meeting is tentatively scheduled for January 15, 2008. New officers will be notified of time and place. Dues: Dues for the 2008 membership year are due in January. You may send them in with your ballots. Dues are $10.00 for the year, $15.00 if you want a pin. Membership Meeting: The next membership meeting is tentatively scheduled for March 15, 2008 at Baker's Square. More information in the next newsletter. | Ohio Women Veterans' Conference: Members Sally Porter, Louella McIntosh, Ellen Leidy, Elva Pounders, and Sharon Nicholson attended the Governor's Advisory Committee-2007 Ohio Women Veterans' Conference on October 20th in Ashville, Oh. Kathleen Chard, PhD gave a presentation discussing PTSD. Colonel Nancy Marie August gave a talk about her experiences in the Air Force and the Air National Guard. Colonel Rhonda Cornum, PH D, MD spoke of her experiences in the US Army, including her research, her assignment as a flight surgeon in the Persian Gulf Conflict, and her experience as a POW. Colonel Cornum is currently the Chief of Surgery at Ireland Army Community Hospital in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. WIMSA: Sally Porter, Sharon Kiesel, Darlene Wellock, and Sharon Nicholson went on the bus tour with North Coast WAVES to Washington, DC in November to attend the 10th anniversary Celebration of WIMSA. We attended the Anniversary Celebration in the afternoon and marched over the Memorial Bridge from the Lincoln Memorial to Arlington Cemetery by candlelight for a Service of Rememberance that evening. It was quite an experience and an honor to walk with all of those ladies. Other highlights included sightseeing, meeting Connie Stephens, and shaking hands with Senator Bob Dole at the WWII Memorial. Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame: Congratulatons to our member Ellen Leidy. She was inducted on November 8 into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame class of 2007. Ellen served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam era and has spent countless hours of service to community and veteran organizations. Summit County 2007 Veteran of the Year: Congratulations to our member, Elva Pounders for being named Summit County 2007 Veteran of the Year for her service and volunteer work on behalf of veterans. Elva served in the US Marine Corps, retiring in 1980 and served for another 10 years in the Marine Fleet Reserve. Veteran's Day: We had a great turnout for the Veteran's Day Luncheon at the Galaxy Restaurant in Wadsworth. Robyn Silves, LPN, from the Medina County Health Department and Nancy Pellotier, RN, from Medina Hands Foundation were our speakers discussing prescription medication misuse in older adults. Twenty-four members attended the luncheon. Medina County Women of the Military, Volume III: There are about 20-25 interviews out in various stages of editing. If you have an interview still out, please edit and return it as soon as possible. If you need another copy or need help editing your interview, please contact Sharon Nicholson. If you would like a copy of Volume I or II, please let Sharon Nicholson know. We still have copies left at a suggested donation of $25.00.
